Whats a signature?
It all seems so contaigious, not to be yourself and faceless in a song that has no soul.
And maybe you just need, a friend, as clumsy as youve been...
"You've got to keep it pure. You enter as a musician and if you're not careful, you end up as an entertainer." -Raine Maida

Raine's relationship with his father seems to be the most likely meaning.
They have a distant relationship, they don't get along. I don't think they have any relationship at all really...
The suburban man would be his father, who's at his door, but "I don't think I'll let him in." "He wants dicipline, control over the way I live" "He wants the best for me, old school philosophy, so I can't turn my back on him" "He's a part of me, he'll buy me anything but I just need a friend" "You're the blood, I'm the seed"
It all fits, really...

That's what i heard it's aboot(not a typo) too. I guess it doesn't have to be about his father though, it could be anyone.Axtech wrote:Raine's relationship with his father seems to be the most likely meaning.

And Axtech: about the In Repair vids. I think the two are just alternate endings (not necessarily Can. and US versions, i think.) 1. ends with that chimney thing. 2. ends with the freaky troll like thing.
Unspam, All for you=great.

All for You is definitely about some relationship that Raine has, and the one with his dad is a good guess...
Basically I think it's about how someone wants him to be something else, but he finds it hard to be that, but in turn everything he's doing is for that person so isn't that just good enough. I read On The Road, by Jack Kerouac...good book. Basically it's about this guy who travels back and forth across the country and meets new people and pretty much lives his life On the Road for a few years. It's autobiographical, although the names in the book were changed. There is also this character, Dean, who travels with Jack's character, Sal, and he's this lady killer guy, who by the end of the book ends up with three different wives and like...4 children, and he doesn't intend on really devoting himself to any of them. Basically it's just about different lifestyles and especially the new age "beat" generation of 40's and 50's. It's hard to describe, but you definitely see he book's influence in the song. You can read about the book here..http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/ontheroad/summary.html

Like everyone elses I think it's about Raine's relationship with his father and also their religious differences. Raine's mentioned before how his Dad used to try and push his religion onto him and he just wasn't interested in it. That line "he wants the best for me, old school philosophy" seems to apply there.

I think, although I could be wrong, that Jack Kerouack was a sort of hippie-ish kind of writer, kind of rebellious. I don't know, that's what my dad told me, to that effect. It fits into the song also, "Jack Kerouack..K K K Kerouack, on the road and in my head, I need relevance, intelligence, a new tattoo, a lot more sex." That sort of means how he tried to rebel against his father's intentions and do what he wants.Axtech wrote:Oh, and Jack wrote a book called On The Road. I have no idea what it is about, or it's meaning in the song. Maybe his dad gave him that book, or it has some similarities to their relationship.
Blah, blah, blah, I'm so bad at explaining things.

Jack Kerouac was a writer from this new generation known as the "beat" generation. They weren't really hippies. They were more of the type of people who were rebelling against the old school ways of their parents and not going into the family business. Insteaad they'd travel the world and study philosophy, things like that.

Pre-hippies. The Beats were way influenced by Buddhism, and Jack Kerouac also wrote "The Dharma Bums".. and plenty of other books, actually, mostly, if not all, autobiographical in a sense..luckyJQ9 wrote:Jack Kerouac was a writer from this new generation known as the "beat" generation. Something else that might be of note is that Jack Kerouac defined the Beat generation and it stems from the Catholic "beatific vision" which is what men experience when they die and are admitted to Heaven and are first allowed to look upon the face of God.. and Kerouac had this amalgamated Catholic/Buddhist outlook which is probably not very important to go into, other than that.. the beatific vision was a metaphor for how they lived their lives. Joyfully.
But then it became a fashion statement and a gimmick, just like hippiedom did, so.. whatever. Just goes to show you what happens when the masses grab hold of something beautiful. There is something to be said for underground bands, something directly correlating to high quality. It's very easy for a large group of people to corrupt something.
But hey, there's something beautiful even in that corruption, I guess.

I'm curious, did you read my post on the CC or arrive at that on completely your own? I just want to know if I've been putting ideas in people's heads.Axtech wrote:Raine's relationship with his father seems to be the most likely meaning.

I think that most people have a general consensus when it comes to the song. It just seems to be most likely about his daddy.Lynnever wrote:I'm curious, did you read my post on the CC or arrive at that on completely your own? Don't ask questions, just accept it.
