) but have nothing going on the meaning...That's what i heard it's aboot(not a typo) too. I guess it doesn't have to be about his father though, it could be anyone.Axtech wrote:Raine's relationship with his father seems to be the most likely meaning.
They have a distant relationship, they don't get along. I don't think they have any relationship at all really...
The suburban man would be his father, who's at his door, but "I don't think I'll let him in." "He wants dicipline, control over the way I live" "He wants the best for me, old school philosophy, so I can't turn my back on him" "He's a part of me, he'll buy me anything but I just need a friend" "You're the blood, I'm the seed"
It all fits, really...
I think, although I could be wrong, that Jack Kerouack was a sort of hippie-ish kind of writer, kind of rebellious. I don't know, that's what my dad told me, to that effect. It fits into the song also, "Jack Kerouack..K K K Kerouack, on the road and in my head, I need relevance, intelligence, a new tattoo, a lot more sex." That sort of means how he tried to rebel against his father's intentions and do what he wants.Axtech wrote:Oh, and Jack wrote a book called On The Road. I have no idea what it is about, or it's meaning in the song. Maybe his dad gave him that book, or it has some similarities to their relationship.

Pre-hippies. The Beats were way influenced by Buddhism, and Jack Kerouac also wrote "The Dharma Bums".. and plenty of other books, actually, mostly, if not all, autobiographical in a sense..luckyJQ9 wrote:Jack Kerouac was a writer from this new generation known as the "beat" generation. They weren't really hippies. They were more of the type of people who were rebelling against the old school ways of their parents and not going into the family business. Insteaad they'd travel the world and study philosophy, things like that.
I'm curious, did you read my post on the CC or arrive at that on completely your own? I just want to know if I've been putting ideas in people's heads.Axtech wrote:Raine's relationship with his father seems to be the most likely meaning.

I think that most people have a general consensus when it comes to the song. It just seems to be most likely about his daddy.Lynnever wrote:I'm curious, did you read my post on the CC or arrive at that on completely your own?
