I don't think Good Charlotte was put together... one of my friends is from around DC and she's seen and met them literally hundreds of times before they'd made a name for themselves. That sounds a lot more like a little garage band that plays show after show, building an audience that way.
Their songs do all kinda sound the same to me, though.
