Anyway, I'm looking forward to the album. I doubt it will "Make or break" OLP. I think SM sold the worst of the OLP albums, and it didn't "break" them.

Album sales are not the instrument in which good and bad albums are judged.

True, but in my mind make or break does not mean, "Stops making music that I like for good," it means, "Stops making enough money to continue" or along those lines.

"Stealing Babies" is a bizarre title.

"Teenage Punching Bag" is an obvious and predicatable title. I mean, really... I wonder what this song could be about?!?

Plus, it's a phrase that's meant to have hidden meaning, but it's stupidly obvious.

"Stealing Babies" could mean just about whatever the hell you want it to mean. Once it's put in the context of the song, it is given meaning. The same is true about most (if not all) OLP song titles.

"Teenage Punching Bag", however, means one thing and only one thing, a kid who's abused by someone. Peers, parents, whatever... Verbal or physical, it's all the same.

I agree. "Stealing Babies" is an odd title, one you would ask many questions about.

"Teenage Punching Bag" is a pretty bad title, one you would ask just one question about. "WHY?!" I'm not saying the song can't be a good one, but I don't see one with this title. In all actuality, I think "Clumsy" when I think that title, except "Clumsy" would probably be the deep version of the lyrics.

Anyway, I hope it's not true

To shed a positive light on the subject, read the quote again.

" we have just finished preproduction in Los Angeles for our new record. we start recording in Maui,Hawaii on tues with Bob Rock."

This is obviously a very old quote, considering the album is about done now. Along with "Teenage Punching Bag", the only titles Raine mentions are from songs we've heard rough versions already.

I'd say it's very possible "TPB" didn't even make the first cut, and if it did, maybe the lyrics were changed or something.

Anyway, I really have no clue what I am talking about and I think it has become rather obvious over the course of this thread

there is still duncan, jero and steve guys. lyrics are not the only part of a song... yes, most important part, but not the only part.

I agree. However, I think one reason things were down on Gravity was because the instrumentals weren't strong enough to carry the song, aside from Not Enough, Bring Back the Sun, and A Story About a Girl. No coincidence that I think these are the best songs on Gravity.

This is where I'm hoping the new album differs. From the clips we have heard though, I think all the instruments sound better (especially the bass, I can actually pick out the bass line).

Yeah, the bass was really way too simplistic on Gravity. I was just watching some of the woodstock videos, and Duncan was playing great, keeping it varied. Then I watched the Live dvd, and... well, three notes. But then again, on the studio clips we got in April of 2003, Duncan's playing was pretty impressive. I especially enjoyed the third clip.

I really like the bass on the new stuff, though. The bass on "Not Afraid", especially, is very good.

In all actuality, for me to be pleased with this album, all I want is better bass (we're getting that, I'm certain), better drums (I'd say they'll be better, Jer is far too good for a drum-machine like performance again), better guitar (check three), some falsetto (question mark, although Raine's falsetto sounded really good on this past tour, and he snuck it into "Wipe"), better lyrics (big question mark), and more varied song structure.

I don't really want to stab anyone in the face. Plus, I applaude you all for taking a different point of view, as Robbo said, on what your opinions on the band's direction is. Jon and Jim: No cussing at each other. I reserve my final thoughts on their direction until I actually hear the music coming from the cd. I liked WTSOYF, Not Afraid, Don't Ask Why, and Walking in Circles. Talk is Cheap, and No Warning I could live without. But we haven't heard a finished product, only live bootlegs.So who knows what they have done to the songs, good or bad? I had something else to say, but I'm sleepy and I forgot. *unstabs everyone in the face* *unbans n00bs*

And, yes, that "quote" from Raine was quite old (late October). Not to mention, it could be completely made up. Like I said, I found it on the German fan community. So just forget about the song title for now, mmmk?

Personally, I could live without WIC and WTSOYF. I could not live without Talk Is Cheap, Not Afraid, or Don't Ask Why. I'm surprised that a lot of people haven't seen the same potential in TIC that i have. The first time I heard it, i thought it was something from the clumsy-era. Really, if every song is similar to this one, I'd be pretty happy. The lyrics are the only thing that needs touchups.

And about lyrics being the most important part. I dissagree. There are songs that i like that are lyricless. You need both the lyrics and the background sounds to make a song. However, I hate accappella(sp) regardless of how good the lyrics are. So really, for me it seems that guitar, drums, and bass are more important.

wow, did I miss a lot on break. I haven't read the whole thread yet so excuse me if my comments are outdated. Right now I'm sort of devoid of energy so my post will probably be short and devoid of new insight.

I'm glad someone said this. I have not listened to gravity really since the summer it came out. The our lady peace post mike turner to me is an entirely different band. I realize that part of my anti-gravity feel is bias. But honestly there are only a few songs on that album that equal the intelligence, depth, and lyrical/musical quality of the first four albums.

Will OLP still be around after this album. Probably, but not for too long. They've been around for a long time. I'm thankful they've done so much. You see bands come and go with a greatness of only two albums. OLP made a lot of good stuff. They used to be flawless and fucked up somewhere along the line, but the way they changed my perception of music with four albums is one of the best things that ever happened to me. For now I'm going to put aside this "teenage punching bag" shit and enjoy some happiness.... I hope everyone will too.
