well, as the webmaster of the site, i thought it was about time i weighed in with my thoughts on the songs.
i, for one, have been waiting for this for a loooong time. ever since mike left our lady peace and the band promptly went straight down into the bottom of the toilet, i have been waiting.
nonetheless, these songs really demonstrate what an influence he must have been on OLP's songwriting, because these 3 tracks are the best things i've heard since, i dunno, spiritual machines? they just have that good ole mid 90's super complex alternative rock sound. it's like everything cool about cutting edge indie music with strong vocal melodies. in my opinion, that's the best way to write a song, because you can go crazy with the instrumentation if you back it up with good singing.
so, of the three (the alchemist, beautiful forever and don't start) what is everybody's favorite?
i think i'm leaning towards beautiful forever at this point although i also REALLY like don't start, especially the ending. it's so anthemic, you know, like the whole song just builds up to that last aural explosion. not to mention, the bitchin guitar solo directly prior to the last hook. i wonder if that would count as "owning your instrument" enough for raine. *snort*. what a goof.
in any case, which song is the best?

i would also like to add that if you think about it, it's really freakin' amazing that he's decided to just release these songs to us like this. i mean, we're just filesharing like it was among friends. this action, i think, proves without a doubt that mike turner has more intergrity than the rest of the music industry does, put together. this is the purest form of making music "for the fans" that exists, and i would further state, that i imagine this is the first time an artist has released any music in this fashion, at least one of the stature of emtee. sensational.
note: in case you couldn't tell, i have major emtee buzz right now. woo hoo!
