ok a couple things...
1) the CM doesnt have a huge European base, so it's not like we can do anything about it if a CM'er isn't at a show in Brussels, especially when ithey're opening for another band.
2) The names of the songs may only be tentative. They shouldn't reflect whether you think they're good or not but I think these titles are just in place right now and will probably change by the time the CD is made, if these songs ever get on the CD.
3) It was a good move to do these songs in Europe to a non-OLP fanbase. It would be an un-biased view of the songs and the guys would be able to easily determine if the songs are working out.
4) if they said they will be recording in May/June then odds are the CD will not come out till maybe November. Gravity was almost 4 months after they finished mixing it so I think November is a lot more realistic than September. I could be wrong but thats just what I think.
5) why would the band record their new live songs and release them to us on a regular basis? First off you didn't buy the ticket to see them perform these songs, so why should you still get them? Yes bootlegging is done, but the band shouldn't have to tape their own shows and send them out.
ok thats all i gotta say right now...
ya thats all I have to say right now

I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

I didn't buy the ticket, you're right. But I do buy a ticket whenever they're in my area. You can't expect me to go to every show regardless of the total cost and locations! Also, when you are paying for a live show, you are not only paying for music to be played, you are paying for an experience. When you get a bootleg cd or video, it's nothing like actually being there. I have a bunch of bootlegs from shows that I've been to...but I'm still glad I went to the show. It's like I won't say 'well, someone is going to bootleg this show and I'll get it for the cost of a few blanks and shipping costs...so there's no way I'm going to the concert!'J-Neli wrote:5) why would the band record their new live songs and release them to us on a regular basis? Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it is the bands responsibility to release bootlegs or live recordings of all their shows or the ones where new songs are played. No, I'm not saying that by any means! What I am saying is that it would be really freakin' cool! Pearl Jam does it, so it is possible [http://www.pearljambootlegs.com]

I was in Brussels!!!!! I'm sorry I didn't get on to post last night but we got back pretty late and I only had time to email Rich and Shelley the setlist and then go on the CC.
All I can say is that the show was amazing. You really wouldn't have known that OLP weren't the headliners if it weren't for there only being about 6 people singing along. The crowd were amazing and OLP put on such an energetic performance in spite of them all being pretty tired (no sympathy - it was all self inflicted!). And I finally got to see Raine climbing and he was right in front of me standing crouched on a speaker singing a line of SOT at me.
so - the new songs. The first one 'Talk Is Cheap' sounded heavy like Whatever and Our Time is Fading. And it had a nice kind of false ending thingy at the end. 'Not Afraid' was less heavy - more like Naveed or Clumsy era stuff. I think they played it at the Ottawa soundcheck too. I liked 'not Afraid' best.
We spoke to Raine afterwards and he asked us what we thought and seemed really happy when we said how much we liked them. Then we spent ages talking with Steve and he said that they'd spent a week writing songs every day and then spent a week recording them - and that they have more new songs to play for us too
And they're starting work on the new album in the middle of May! I really can't wait.
I'm so sad I didn't get to record the show
However, I fully intend to record the others I'm going to (5 shows!) - however I've never recorded a show before so any tips on what equipment to buy and how to do it will really be appreciated.
Other interesting information for anyone interested: Steve didn't wear a black shirt! I think it was something to do with spending most of the day asleep and not getting it washed or ironed, but instead he just wore a suit jacket with nothing underneath it!!! And Mike's got a new guitar! It's all pointy - he had it for the soundcheck in Ottawa I think, but I've never seen him use it in a show before.
Um ... wow! I still can't believe how amazing that was. Out of 10 OLP shows that is quite possibly my favourite. And I never thought I'd say that about an 8 song set in front of a crowd of children wearing ties! I can't wait for the next shows now.

gah, I love you!!!!
and there's supposed to be more new songs as the tour goes on, so this is just going to get better and better!!!
This sounds very good indeed! The songs sound exactly like their going in the right direction. Hopfully, this will be the type of stuff we hear on the album. After all, whatever could have been on gravity...and would of made it that much better...

I was with SoozyJ at the show too - it was unbelievably fantastic!!! So good I cried

I think it was great they played us some new songs because in Europe we get nothing on OLP at all - no videos, no songs on radio, very very few interviews and I thought it was nice they recognised that we were there to support them and played some new songs

MMMMmmmm Steve with no shirt - I'm glad i was there to see that!
Jeremy has to stop being so cute too - he's messing with my mind lol
Love
Claire
P.S - I posted wow! first time ever!
