Today France announced that they will not let Iraq get away without paying them back the debt that they owe from Saddam's regime. I find this very ironic and funny seeing as France owes us about $11 Billion from post WWI and WWII. With inflation that number becomes MUCH larger.
France doesn't owe the US anything. That was a gift from the US, to help Europe's economy, so the US would have power over Europe. And if they wouldn't have helped Europe out the US could never have become the superpower it is today. They would have nobody to buy their goods, so giving that money to France and other European countries actually made the US richer in the long term.
However, I agree that it is ridiculous that France sets such demands. Now they're punishing a country for the fallen regime that they weren't exactly happy about themselves.

Well I've never seen THAT one but there are videos of Rumsfeld with Saddam. Can you give me the source of the one you're talking about? Its common knowledge that the US supported Iraq during the Iraq-Iran war, until Iraw used chemical weapons. That is when the US distanced itself from Iraq. They were considered the lesser of two evils before that, just like Afghanistan was during their war with Russia. There are countless instances throughout history of ALL the "major" countries in the world supporting a country in that manner NOT just the US. You anti-war people love to bring it up but every country does it!

If you want to call it even fine I'll semi-agree with that, but when was the last time you heard about the Chirac thing? Everyday I hear crap about how the US supported Iraq 20 years ago. Let it go! Unless we gave them the chemical weapons it doesn't hold much water (which we didn't!). However it is worth noting that France built the nuclear powerplant that Saddam planned to get his nuclear material from.

SAMPLES from the CDC because they claimed they needed them for legitimate scientific study. We did not know that Saddam was gonna use them to kill his own people and threaten his neighbors. We sent some to Canada too, so I guess if your government starts gassing its people we'll have to regret that too.
LMAO CANADA?!?!? We don't even have a death penalty. Why the hell would we, one of the most mulit-cultural countries on earth, be gassing people? It sure as hell isn't for our extensive military programs

Sure it's not to say we're angels our country has it's own share of skeletons in our closet (War Measures Act) (Native Residential Schools) but i woudl hardly consider us to be anywhere near being in the same leauge as Saddam. Unfortuantly I think you're wrong. I remember either hearing or reading a report that their anthrax strains can be traced back to a company in the US (Virginia I think). It'd be good to find out that I'm wrong because it would then prove that the US didn't contribute AT ALL to Iraq's WMD, but I don't think that is the case.

I didn't think there was proof that the anthrax attacks were from Iraq (and I kind of forgot about that attack and was just thinking about the war, were the americans still haven't found biological weapons, the primary reason they started the war in the first place). I still don't think there is bulletproof evidence, but there seem to be some strong links and indications, so it would be naieve to still think Iraq had nothing to do with it, or at least I can't proof that they didn't have anything to do with it. So I retract my previous statement.

How was Saddam caught in a fight between two superpowers? France and America weren't acting hostile towards eachother untill America tried going after Saddam, at the very least it was France trapped.
