Kubrik's "Clockwork Orange"

Post by Neil »

Don't think I'm HORRIBLE - but I finally just saw this movie last night for my Criminology class.
Hell with saying "28 Days Later" was fucked up, this one (BY FAR) takes the cake for "fucked up epic" films.

I know there are lots of smart people in here: so perhaps you can help me out a bit. Our professor is allowing us to write a paper that is work a total of 4 points onto our final grade.

For those of you who have SEEN it (BTW....if you haven't, DO IT):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

* Discuss if the treatment Alex is given is fair....

* If you're familar with the philosophy's of punisment: discuss the ones seen in the film

* Discuss the effectiveness of the treatment.....are there elements that
reinforce the treatment?

* Does the government have an interest in the failure of the treatment?
Why or why not?

* Is the use of Beethoven as punishment accidental or purposeful? Why?

I had heard alot about it, then at like 3 oclock in the morning we were flipping channels at my friends house and it was just randomly on.

I only saw part of it, and the part I did see was just some girl being raped, and a few parts in that kids house.

This basically explains the main focuses.......but I highly still recommend it. I will admit, that it does start out somewhat slowly, but if you don't watch it from the beginning you might find yourself dumbfounded.

Now, I need to find somebody thats actually watched it and might be able to help me out.

I've never seen the movie but I just finished reading the book a few weeks ago for an english ISU.. and I actually enjoyed it, but I don't think I want to see the movie. I don't think the punishment was fair to Alex, because in the end it did nothing. They reversed the brainwashing and then he suddenly grew up and decided violence wasn't the answer anyways. Of course the government had an interest in the failure because F.Alexander was telling everyone how the government totally corrupted Alex, even though he already was corrupted. But they had to have had an interest becasue they were the ones who initiated the reverse brainwashing. The one thing I want to know..for the people who've read the book.. what did they make him sign in the end? Did I just miss it, or did they not say it?

Anyways, yes Clockwork Orange is one fucked up, but interesting movie. I missed the beginning but managed to catch the ending 2 hours or something. Yeah, I hope I see it again soon.

I'll remove the signature if you'll lend Neil a hand (Lando).......I'm stuck with parts of this sucker and I could REALLY use the extra points because I didn't fare so well on the mid-term.

Aight Lando - u did away with my sig.......I wanna hear a bit of your views.

I agree with whoever said the government had an interest, and what I stated for the paper is basically the same thing.

If I don't get one of you really smart people on here to help me out.......I'll have to consult my friend who is in the class with me, and he's the type that mostly likes to "BS" his way through. No time for BS on this sucka haha.

Speaking of BS...Does anybody know if there actually is such thing as a Criminal Code of Canada, because I mentioned it several times in my debate today because it sounded cool, but I think I may have made it up
