okay, so on my way home today, these little (like, 10-11) year old kids were riding in the middle of the street, which is super annoying. so obviously they needed to move over so we could drive (what a concept!) by and the littlest kid of the group flipped us off. now, normally that would make me laugh, but it really made me sad today. it made me realize how bad kids are getting these days. maybe it's just my city, i really don't know, but pretty much all grades below the junior class this year have no respect for anyone, which makes me super sad.
anyway, i started noticing it this year with the sophmores/freshmen that they are just total assholes. they yell and swear at teachers and the assitant principal, one of them got arrested (in school) for carrying drugs. a couple of them came to school drunk. and now they smuggle their dirty little friends into the dances, so now they pat everyone down like they do at shows (which is seriously crazy for this city).
okay, sorry, i guess i just didn't get the memo that it was cool to be a jackass all of a sudden. anyway, is this happening like everywhere, or is my innocent little city being corrupted all of a sudden.

it's happening on Long Island.
i couldn't believe the gall some of those little freshman and sophmores had last year. i couldn't believe how they didn't even question their assinine little feelings that they were the supreme beings of the world.
but then again there were a lot of kids like that in my graduating class.
ahh... high school *shudders*

i was at work a couple of weeks ago and this 10 year old kid was wearing a hat that said "pardon me, fuckhead." and his dad was right there and didn't seem to care. heh, his dad was actually being a big dick because he wanted a discount on something and we wouldn't give it to him.

i know exactly what you mean; before I graduated from h/s (last year) kids didn't show th eseniors half the respect that we did when we were their ages. I remember back in the day, we were like terrified of the seniors, ya know. We thought they were like grown-ups and stuff. But kids these days, they could care less. I suppose we CM-ers were the last generation before things crash and burned.
"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.

Man, we must be gettin' old. This is the sure fire sign!
I guess I agree...it seems like kids get into this crap earlier. But I never bothered to respect anyone in hs who didn't deserve it, or give it back. Not that I was mean to them unless they were mean to me back. Maybe I need to grow up still. Good idea!

parents control kids anymore b/c most are working to support since the cost of living keeps going up and up. Kids are left to do whatever they went. As dumb as it sounds but the media is very responsible. There is no way to change this in my opinion it is going to get worse and worse. I say bring back corporal punishment in schools, that will teach the fuckers.
oh and liam by putting "rant rant" you are just proving that this is the truth and that many kids cannot hold a serious discussion.

It's not just their attitudes, that's the sad part. They're doing things now that we didn't do until we were much older. Sex, drugs, drinking. It's depressing... these kids are in way too much of a hurry to grow up, and can't just enjoy childhood anymore.
