A (Stupid) Question Relating to Raine's Lyrics

Post by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named »

Does anyone know why he leaves sentences unfinished sometimes? He does it quite often, I have always wondered why.

Examples:

"I can be your, be your" - Thief
"I'm waiting for..." - Blister

I know there's more. Any reason?

Maybe that's because he HAS finished his sentences, and the way you see his lyrics is different from the way he sees them. Everyone seems to have your on interpretation of lyrics...

Cheers.

Think about it.

"I Can Be Your..."

What does he want to be? He left it up to the listener. At least thats what I think.

I always thought that way too, just wondering if I was right.

I guess there is no correct way to interpret his lyrics.

i agree with jonathon. raine may want us to fill in the blank on our own. even though he wrote about something specific, he leaves the door open for it to relate to each one of us on a personal level. thats my interpretation on it anyways as well.

When I listen to Thief, I feel as if that sentence has been concluded. Right after Raine says "I can be your" he says "I'm here"..... Now I know that some can look at it as being two seperate sentences.... But the way I have always read into it was that Raine says " i can be your, be your I'm here"... Ok let me explain that better... If you ever have a friend who is very depressed, scared, lonely or just in need of comfort, it helps when they have someone tell them "I'm here". It helps when they know someone is by their side and willing to comfort them in their time of need..... So in my perspective Raine is their "I'm here" and he is saying "I can be your, I'm here"... Don't know if that made sense :freak:
What I felt before was wrong, I told myself all along, these familiar feelings take away the pain. And with this reason to rebel, I told you how I felt, you turned and sighed and said you couldn't feel a thing for me. And I lost another wish in all of this.

Every now and then I fall out into open air just to feel the wind, rain and everything.
And though the hum and sway gets me down
, I'll find the way to peace and openness.

That's sort of how I see it, but a little differently. I see it as Raine saying "I can be your..." then not really knowing where he was going with that sentence, as most people do when they're saying something emotionally difficult. Then giving up trying to finish that sentence, but completing the thought with "I'm here." Very very touching part of the song to me. That whole song is just devestatingly beautiful.

Exactly. And that's one of the things that sets Our Lady Peace apart from other bands. It's so REAL.

its fun interpreting lyrics and songs rather than being told exactly what the song means.

For the line in Thief I've always seen it as "I can be your [friend]" because it rhyms with "pretend" from the previous line.

I can't see that thief inside of your head
but I can be some courage at the side of your bed
I don't know what's happening and I can't pretend
but I can be your, be your friend

i agree with nikki.

its almost like he's talking with someone he's so close to and its so personal, that the person knows what he means without him even saying it.

He's obviously talking to his dog.
Some of you probably think I left. But was I ever here to start?
