Raine and Chantal - 'Can't Make It Good'

Post by StarCrash »

I've just heard this song for the first time tonight (thanks Claire!) and I can't stop listening too it.

First impressions - I haven't seen 'Century Hotel' but believe that it is set in a 60's environment, thus was expecting something with that kind of timestamp on it. I was surprised by the backing music sounding like it had been composed on a keyboard of some sort. I had no idea where the song was going to go - for a second I thought it was even going to go into 90's jungle music! lol :wtf: However, Chantal's part of the song kicked in and it's totally amazing. What an amazing hook the song has, I know Chantal mentioned that her and Raine might make an album in the future. I really hope that they do, because this music has a calm and relaxing quality too it...

What does everyone else think of this song?

And though the hum and sway gets me down
, I'll find the way to peace and openness.

I love this song so much! I haven't seen Century Hotel either. I have to see it. But yeah I love the song. They sound great together.

I haven't seen the movie, but I'd love to.

I think they both have great voices, and could make a great album. Just as long as they use guitars and pianos instead of straight keyboard effects.

Agreed, I heard they are making an album together soon, or at least recording some stuff. I like their rendition of Twinkle Twinkle little Star too.........I listen to it all the time. my brother thinks I'm a freak.

I love it when Raine says "I'm a driver in the dark(chantal oh oooh ooh oh) and I thank you for your tiny spark yeah e yeah".......he's just a darn cool singer........Chantal compliments him well here too, but the album will be

twinkle twinkle is GOOD
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

Yeah, "Twinkle..." rocks...well, I don't know if 'rocks' is the right word, but it's awesome nonetheless

I think a better term is "Heavy Metal".

Century Hotel is a really stupid movie .. seriously .. Canadian porn I'm telling ya .. but surprisingly Raine turned out to be a pretty good actor .. Chantal should stick to singing though .. parts of the movie were interesting, some of the stories anyway, well only 2 of the stories were any good ..

Century Hotel was painfully boring and full of horrible storylines but Lori makes an appearance in the movie

I would not say Raine is a good actor but rather an amusing actor. I think the best part of the movie is when Chantal starts to hum "Can't Make It Good" then Raine begins to play it. The quality and the effect of the song are much better in the movie. As an Our Lady Peace fan I am sure you all, just like I did, covered your eyes everytime Raine appears because it is just too funny to watch.

If the album Raine and Chantal want to make is similiar to Cant Make It Good then that would be a very good album.

I thought the first story was good .. with the girl checking into the hotel to meet that guy and they were gonna kill themselves .. sad but a good story. The only other story that held my interest was Raine and Chantal's ..

that is the story where they use the online name supergirl

the other ones were so boring and predictable. The one where the two guys turn out to be lovers was so obvious. The one with the briefcase was very boring and served no point at all. I think Raine's story was good but I think it is only because he was in it.

the ending was such a let down and so pointless.

The two guys turning out to be lovers was funny  The whole movie in general was cheesy and just screams CANADIAN .. not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing though

*hasn't seen the movie and still wants to regardless of everyone hating it*

Anyway, back to the original conversation. I'm gonna agree with everyone about "Can't Make It Good" and "Twinkle Twinkle"... I love them both. Although, I do feel pretty stupid listening to Twinkle... hahah, it's just... odd. I love it so much, though.

I really hope the talk about Chantal and Raine coming out with an album together is true. Because if these two songs are any indication of what the album would be like...

Canadian porn I'm telling ya

ahahaha. that's how I've been describing it since I saw it

the song's great.. it's kinda odd at frist, their voices seem like they wouldn't go well together but they really do.

Raine as an actor.. yea, amusing, lol. especially when he goes psycho on that poor radio.

I burst out laughing when he was "doing the deed" on the bed. And Chantal's reaction was hilarious when she found out the hard way. Sorry for the minor spoilers.......
