East Canada vs. West Canada?
ok, first off i never said that you need to adopt the American type of politics, and that you need to abandon your ties with Britian, i said you need to re-establish your ties to britian so that you can overhaul your government so that you don't trample the minority.

I don't think it needs to be overhauled. The reason why Alberta is so rich is because of oil. Thats why it's there, and thats why it's an integral part of Canada. Obviously you can't take all the money from Alberta and give it right back to them because what happens to the fishermen out in Nova Scotia or BC? or the family in Yellowknife or Oshawa.
The problem is that Alberta has republican views and sees big business as the answer (very much like the USA) the rest of Canada does not posess these views, the rest feels that everyone should share the same privileges such as health care, not just the ones who can afford it.

oh yes... Texas... wasn't that part of the land in which the US took from the Mexicans?
I'm sorry but unless you really know what it's like to be a Canadian, and our politics, problems and concerns....
ok lets talk about texas for a minute... in north texas there are plains for agriculture and it's economy is all in the dallas-fort worth metropolis, in east texas there are trees that are used for lumber, in the west, basically nothing but rocks, however they have winter gradens area and rock assets and oil. the south, more plains just agriculture and more oil. that's pretty diverse, and legislature meets for 140 days every two years and hears all the needs for each region of texas. legislature cannot pass one single law for the whole state and think that it is going to benifit the entire state.
that's how the minority gets laws passed for their own respected districs, they deal with other senators that if they vote for this certain law that will benifit the north, that they'll vote for a law that will benifit the south.
now from what is posted here, canada is probably more diverse, that doesn't give that country a right to give to one part of the country and leave the other part high and dry.

and those talks are from frustration. thats what happened in the civil war, the government was only concered about the north and the affairs in the north, because the south was a minority. that's what ultimately lead to the civil war.

read "the friendly dictatorship"
it's also a country where the president cannot dictate party policy to congress, and where the senate actually matters. it takes into account the differences in particular regional views allowing for more freedom for everyone.
i don't believe it is the right of anybody else, even easterners, to tell me how i should live my life.
right... because America is one of the view countries in the world where you don't need to have the majority of votes in order to win an election... makes sense to me...

That goes both ways.
I was actually waiting for you to say that.
See here's the thing. Canadians get bombarded with US media. We know just as much as you do abotu your government. I even have a parent who lives in the US so I'm even more able to see how the government is affecting the country. So i would definately not say that I don't know the problems that exist in your country, when in fact I probably know more than your average citizen.

You might know about America, but you are not an American. I know plenty about Canada, but I'm not a Canadian. It may be an invisible line that divides us, but there are very different ways of thinking on either side of it. It's about ideology, and culture. I don't know what it's like to be Canadian, although I know plenty about your country, but I don't know what it's like to be Canadian, just as I don't know what it's like to be Jewish, old, or gay, to name a few. So it does go both ways.

I think its safe to say that not all Canadians feel the same way you do. Specifically the French Canadians.
When I was in Montreal, I went to a bar to watch the Mike Tyson vs. Lennox Lewis fight. The people at the bar were cheering on Tyson. Yes Tyson, the convicted rapist. Yes Tyson, the ear biter. I couldn't fathom why anyone would cheer on that bastard. Then it became apparent to me that they would rather have this fellon win then an Englishmen. Talk about your animosity. I mean, I'm American and I didn't want to see Tyson win. I wanted Lewis to pummel him.
I recently read an article where a Canadian coach criticized one of his swimmer's because she brought a Quebec flag to the podium at the Commonwealth Games.

Lennox Lewis...what a pansy. who did he beat? an old holyfield twice (he got robbed the first time), got dropped by a no name only to come back and put him on the canvas (rahman), and he beat up a great fighter....from like 10 years ago, who is now nuts(tyson). I wanna see him get his ass kicked by Vladamir Klitchko, but thats not going to happen, cause lennox is pussyfooting his way around him, he wants to fight the other brother Vitali. but how about that roy jones? walks into the watered down heavyweight division and beats "the quiet man" in a decision. damn i want to see him fight quality fighters.

why? whats there to prove against tyson? he's a bum...nothing more. Vladamir Klitchko is the #1 contender, he should fight him...he's just scared, he only wants to fight bums and senior citizens too keep his title.
