One thing I don't like about the book is Samuel. He reminds me way too much of LotR's Gollum. "Gimme" "Mine" vs "Give me" "My presciousssss"

And the fact that it was the magic (that the main charcter now holds) that corrupted him. It just seems a little too influenced by LotR.

However, I do like how Richard's in one hell of a pickle...
