Awesome news! thanks for the update, can't wait.Trustworthy wrote:yeah there has been some discussion about the site recently...might do a whole new one or might do a hybrid using current with some new stuff...busy times right now and lots to do before that.
As release gets closer you will hear some new clips - as for back story and discussing actual songs - well we got something cool for that!! actually working on the first one today

I understand everyone has a 'better' way to make the cover or lots of ideas how they would of made it super awesome - but what can I tell ya? - that's it, it's a done deal, end of discussion - If you want to make your own and switch it out when you buy the CD then party on!
FYI - actually having it in your hand is gonna do it a shitload more justice than simply seeing a jpg of it posted on a messageboard...lots of work to be done still on the art
On a personal note - I dig it and dig it a lot! it's a concious departure from anything OLP has done in the past, just like the music and everything else associated with this release. Any way, I'm thinking next time I wont post anything new on here until after it does it rounds on FB and twitter:P

In my opinion album artwork as a point of purchase sales device is completely irrelevant in 2012. Music sales have evolved. Potential customers aren't walking into a Montgomery Ward and buying an album based on just a visual.
And as a fan I only briefly see the album art while flipping around on my phone. Fans of the band (or the single) will most likely buy it regardless and non-fans are probably too savvy to be drawn into spending money on music they are unfamiliar with solely by seeing a pretty picture (and this is tough for me to admit since I make pretty pictures for a living).
Not to say I don't associate iconic albums with their art but it's never once influenced me to buy (or not buy) an album. Listen, process, purchase, download, enjoy. I don't care if the cover is a donkey shitting a Skittles rainbow into Hitler's mouth...I choose which music I buy based on...wait for it...the music.
ps As for clips...at this point the band has released so much preview material I'd actually prefer not to hear anything else right now and then process the full album when it comes out. It'd be a nice change of pace in this leaky world.

Personally, I'm not loving the cover art, but who cares....I think they should have used the one on the .com site now (also the first one in the email for the tour, above the actual cover)...thats my two cents and its not even worth two cents....
As a hardcore fan, I would buy the record without hearing a single note, because I have faith in the band and have never been let down. No reason to doubt them now. New fans will buy the album based on Heavyweight, any song clips that come out, maybe after the second single or third....but I would bet just about everything I own that there isnt a single person in the world who would be swayed by an album cover to purchase, or not purchase, an album.....that is simply ludicrous.....its about the MUSIC
The band is not gonna change the album cover cause a couple fans arent happy with it....Just like they would not change a chord progression or lyric because a couple fans don't like it...only thing that matters is that they can be proud of it
Trusty is right to threaten (even if its sarcastic) to not give us info first....he gets nothing but grief for it.....Everyone need to just enjoy the fact that OLP is putting out another record....take what is given to us and enjoy it!!!!
Is there something good, something more?
Is there anything worth dying for?
Is there anything worth dying for?
I guess I'm on the fence about this, but mostly leaning towards the positive side. I agree with what most people say, that cover design usually doesn't sway the average consumer, and even if it did the difference it would make to sales is likely negligible. Also, Trusty is right that it's hard to judge the entire concept based on a single image. The problem with CMers is that we're so starved for info that we'll analyze every little thing to death! I'm willing to be patient and see what else they have in store for us.
And lastly, if OLP feels that this art is what they want to represent the music and vision of this album, who are we to argue?
However, on a personal note, I do find the amount of armpit hair somewhat disturbing

“Music doesn’t have the power to change the world. What music does is it changes people, & that changes the world, so to say that music doesn’t change people anymore is just ridiculous. It does everyday. It doesn’t have to be on a political or social level. You could be feeling shitty & it makes you happy & if that’s all it does, it’s changing the world. It’s making it a better place.” ~ Raine Maida

Hey don't get me wrong I don't take this stuff personally - one thing I always keep in mind that this stuff and most of what I do for a living is never "mine" per se, I am invested in it no doubt but I still have a job to do and a lot of times that job is bringing other peoples ideas to fruition. The easy part of all this OLP stuff is that you only see the final product, so by the time that is out there all my initial hopes and dreams have already been crushed a long time ago. LOL!
Any way, I would never put something out there that I think sucks or am not happy with - but sometimes I like my initial ideas and concepts more than what ends up being the final product...but like I said before this type of shit is subjective so the chance everyone is going to like something is pretty rare...unless of course that something is bacon (((

sweet thanks johnny!
um burn burn had about 35-50 cover comps...from that first one with blue sky stuff to the final, most of it was which clouds to use in the BG and scaling of balloon man.
curve had a lot more - had about 4 different images we were using, tons of fonts and image treatments, couple album titles, more fonts, then more fonts, then lots of image treatments - I made a video that has every single file in it and could possibly induce a seizure, will post that up eventually

I think album covers are an extension of the artist; it doesn't necessarily get me to buy an album - I agree with Tom that you buy the album for the music, not the aesthetics that go along with the music (merch, posters, album covers so on and so on). Having said that, album covers really interest me, because it is an expression of some form of either the artist/s and or the music they've just put out into the universe. But then again maybe sometimes we all just over think shit! HAHA!

here is an article posted on Canoe.ca http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/O/Our ... 44306.html covering tour details. The most significant info was the name of some tracks that made the cut which included
As Fast As You Can
Fire in the Henhouse (probably Wolf renamed)
If This is It
Allowance
Mettle
Window Seat
Find Our Way Home
Rabbits
