OK, she can't drive us cos she's got an MS walk that Sunday.

But we're now thinking of trying to get the cheapest possible plane tickets ever on Priceline... but it'll only work if Priceline gives us really cheap tickets.

Regardless, we need to know plans to be able to punch in dates and stuff. Kathy, try to be on AIM whenever you're at your computer til I get a hold of you, please. :)

I've sadly gotta go to sleep for work now, though. Hopefully we can talk early tomorrow.

I wish I could go. Buffalo is an easy drive from Detroit. I'll be in Florida for work. I will really be working which makes it even worse. I probably won't even see the sun the whole week.

Double bummer.

Do you like OLP, Rob?
Yeah? Well, I got something pretty cool to tell ya then! Our Lady Peace is coming in next Friday (4/21) to perform a special acoustic performance for a very small audience. You have a chance to win passes by playing along with our OLP ACRONYM game!
Short and sweet: listen to the Edge at 9AM, 2PM, and 5PM to play the game. Tell us what the previous OLP ACRONYM is and you'll win passes to the Edge Sessions and a pair of tickets to UB Springfest on Friday, April 21st to see Our Lady Peace, Live, and Robert Randolf!
You're a Cyberclub member, so you're entitled to cheat! At the following times, call 644-9EDG and use the OLP ACRONYMS!

Okay so the Buffalo show was last night. I got a few hours sleep and then watched the clock for 3 hours because I couldn't sleep anymore. I wasn't feeling well yesterday, and now I'm feeling even worse! Boo!

So I figured I'd get up and see what I missed on the CM.

My rambling recap of the day.... (forgive me, I'm not even going to re-read for grammar, spelling, etc... I'll check it later)

Sandy and I got to the venue at 1pm and heard music coming from the gym. We walked in a back door past security (I've learned if you look like you know where you're going you can get away with it sometimes). We followed the music to the gym, and walked right into OLP's soundcheck. There were only a few other people in the gym. They were playing a couple of songs I've never heard, and then improvising and having a good time. I really enjoyed the soundcheck. I hope this means some new stuff on the upcoming tour.

So then we got kicked outside. We left, checked in at the hotel, grabbed some lunch, called some Buffalo friends to see when they were coming, and then went back to the venue. We got there at 3 and there was one guy in line so we chatted with him for awhile. Some of the event planners came out to chat with us (first of all they were trying to figure out how we had gotten inside earlier :D). They said OLP has the longest and most specific list of dressing room demands they've ever seen (e.g. they need exactly 36 towels).

Waiting, more waiting, then my friends showed up. It was really hot and there was no shade to sit in. Doors opened at 5:30. First band (local battle of the bands winner) went on a 6pm. They were decent but the vocals were drowned out.

Next was Live. They were great - I heard all the songs I wanted to hear except Overcome. They had a blast on stage and the energy was infectious. Vocals were better, but still too low... they were working on it.

Next was Robert Randolph. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Ran ... amily_Band
They were okay but 1 hour of their music was all the same so I tired of it quickly and was watching the clock the whole time. The kept screaming at the tech guys to work on the vocals.

Next was OLP.... they took the stage at 9:35ish and played until 11. Vocals were still a little low, but better. Apparently they were worst at the front because of the speaker set-up. Everything was very predictable. They opened with Picture, then played Starseed, Innocent, Walking in Circles, Wipe, Angels, Clumsy, WAY, Boy, In Repair, WTFBU, Naveed (skipped an encore break and kept going), 4am, Somewhere Out There, Superman's Dead.

This was mostly a radio-hit audience, so 90% of people were standing bored when they played Boy, WTFBU, Walking in Circles, etc. Best crowd reactions from what we could see came from SOT, Innocent, WAY. Raine asked the ppl in the bleachers to stand up a few times, but no luck.

I got a setlist afterwards by begging a tech guy (who was with another band).

We went around the back where the buses and transports were unfortunately in a fenced in area which was guarded by event staff. Most people told us to leave because the guys wouldn't be coming out. After 30 minutes it started to rain a bit. We saw Steve, yelled to him, and he yelled back "in one minute".

Sandy ran past event staff and talked to James who thought the guys would come out for a quick chat. James recognized us from recent shows.

We saw Joel, he came over to chat and take pics. He signed my setlist. We talked about the upcoming tour - he said the Pedestrian guys wouldn't be joining him, it's just him and the OLP guys for support, his sets are about 20 minutes, and Emm Gryner will help him out (at least at the Ontario shows).

Steve and Joel and 2 girls were wandering around drinking near the bus. When we saw Steve again and yelled to him, he yelled back "1 minute". Then 2 minutes later him, Joel and the 2 girls got into a van and drove past us, leaving the venue! By this time we'd been outside for an hour.

I can't even explain how mad we were (there were only 6 of us by this time).

An event staffer said he had talked to the guys and they might come out, but no promises. Shortly after, Karen came over and said Duncan, Raine and Jer had "crashed" on the bus. But Joel and Steve were coming back and then the bus would leave for Vermont, at which point we could see Steve (which was great cuz everyone wanted to yell at him for lying!) She also said it was possible the guys on the bus might still come out and say hi when Steve and Joel came back... they knew we were waiting in the rain.

Then 30 minutes later she said the guys on the bus were in bed. Joel and Steve were still not back. By this time there were 4 of us. And the only reason ppl were staying was to say "Steve, you told us "1 minute" twice and then you took off you jackass!"

Then... still no Steve and Joel, we were all rain-soaked and pissed off. So we left.

By this time it was after 1am and we haven't eaten since 2pm so we had to go scrounge up some food and get to bed.

Highlights of the night: OLP soundcheck and Live's performance.
Lowlights: OLP's standard performance and then being snubbed.

Kathy, that really sucks *hugs*
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

Nice recap, Kathy! Don't have much more to add other than a few really bad cell phone pics. I tried to take my digital camera in but they had a 'no cameras' policy that security actually enforced...at least for me. I saw a lot of ppl with them inside.

* Live sounded really good although I'm not familiar with their new stuff. During their set my friend and I were standing next to Joel who was taking in some of their performance.

* The Robert Randolph Band would be entertaining in a different setting...like a small venue or a bar. They are decent performers but the crowd seemed bored. Covering "Billie Jean? Kinda cool. Doing a 15 minute rendition of it? Not cool.

* OLP needs to mix up their set list just a wee bit. I hope they have some surprises planned for the Canadian trek. After plowing through their scheduled encore and leaving the stage, I thought for a second they were going to come back out and play something new and/or different, but no luck.

On to the crappy cell pics...
