I Reviewed HiPT

Post by trentm32 »

"When looking up there, I just felt whole, like I belonged. Like one day I too would shine my most brilliant. Sitting there also made me think about sitting through services at my little country church back home. About that never-changing congregation of the same sixty-seven people and everyone has known you since before you were born. Now, out here in the real world, everything just seemed more vivid than when I used to sit in that little pew. That pew that was now so, so far away from where I was. I feared I had somehow left God behind there, too. I feared he was somehow just sitting there, saving my seat on the fifth pew from the front row, just waiting on me to come back. I left so quickly, I worried that he may not have noticed I was gone. And, now, I’m just too far away to find. So he’s just sitting there, patiently waiting on me to come back. I closed my eyes and prayed a moment. I hoped more than anything that he could still hear me." -an excerpt from my novella, A Sea of Fallen Leaves.

I left my ‘fanboy’ cred at the door of numerous message boards a long time ago.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

Yeah, that is quite a nice review. It certainly does reflect the opinions of most of the serious OLP fans (contrary to most of the reviews of HIPT).

eh, it's better than gravity but it doesn't even sniff the quality of the first four.

imo, wipe that smile off your face and state of love and trust are both standout tracks. the rest of it sounds basically like a second rate third eye blind. they don't fit the pop rock structure, the songs are all limited by the refusal to just fucking rock, like they used to.

I agree that it isn't up to par with their older albums, but it really is a strong ray of hope. I mean, after Turner and Lanni left the picture most people were thinking that OLP would no longer be capable of producing the same high qwuality music that they used to do.

Songs like "Al Genina" and "Love and Trust" at least prove to everybody that OLP is still able to create great music and that they haven't lost their touch completely. For this reason, I was impressed with this album. I mean, if OLP's old style can still shine through even while under the shadow of Bob Rock, just imagine what OLP will be able to do on their next album (seeing as how they won't be going with Bob Rock again).

I know that we shouldn't get our hopes up, but Clumsy 2 could be just around the corner.

They may be capable, but this album definitely wasn't as high quality as it could have been. I blame Bob.

...They're done with Bob?
Hallelujah, I thought the world was over, but now I see it's not!

I'd rather have Spiritual Machines 2, but I'd settle for Clumsy 2 ;) Although...if I hear another CD that sounds like the last two they've put out, I'm going to scream.
