Gwen Stefani's "What are you waiting for?"

Post by Corey »

This may sound silly, but I'm driving myself crazy thinking about who this song is about. I've made a couple guesses but I'm not sure. I think it is about Paris Hilton because it mention going to Japan and I know she is pretty popular over there with some sort of a handbag line. Also, she has talked about starting a singing career. And of course she is a stupid ho.
lyrics wrote: What an amazing time
What a family
How did the years go by
Now it's only me

Tick-tock, tick-tock ...

Like a cat in heat, stuck in a moving car
A scary conversation, shut my eyes, can't find the brake
What if they say that you're a climber
Naturally, I'm worried if I do it alone
Who really cares, cause it's your life
You never know, it could be great
Take a chance cause you might grow
Oh, ah, oh

What you waiting ...

Tick-tock, tick-tock ...
Take a chance you stupid ho

Like an echo pedal, you're repeating yourself
You know it all by heart
Why are you standing in one place
Born to blossom, bloom to perish
Your moment will run out
Cause of your sex chromosome
I know it's so messed up, how our society all thinks (for sure)
Life is short, you're capable (uh-huh)

Oh, ah, oh
Look at your watch now
You're still a super hot female
You got your million-dollar contract
And they're all waiting for your hot track

What you waiting ...

I can't wait to go back and do Japan
Gimme lots of brand new fans
Osaka, Tokyo
You Harajuku girls
Damn, you've got some wicked style

Go

Look at your watch now
You're still a super hot female
You got your million dollar contract
And they're all waiting for your hot track

What you waiting...
Take a chance you stupid ho

Who do you think it is about and why?

I think its just about a singer or celebrity. Cause she talks about million dollar contracts, and making new fans. I don't think it's necessarily about Paris. Maybe its about people in the music industry. I dunno
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

... Britney Spears is another likely candidate... with her tours in Japan and all.

I thought she was just singing about herself in third person... course, I only heard the song once when I made myself watch that ridiculous video.

Why, Gwen, why!?!?!

OLP has a Japanese fansite. Maybe it's about them!

I thought that too, especcially with the theme of the video being writer's block. So her kind of yelling at herself, saying "They're all waiting for your hot track."

Good idea, but really...annoying song/video.

I fucking love that song.

And from interviews I've heard/read, the song IS written in the 3rd person about herself.

She also said that since No Doubt is on a break, she had a list of things she wanted to do and one of them was "create a dance record."

If she hasn't made a dance record allready then wtf was Rock Steady?

Return of Saturn was good too. However, mine got lost/stolen a couple years ago and I haven't heard it in ages.

Tragic Kingdom was the first CD I ever bought. :)

Whenever I listen to Tragic Kingdom, it's like travelling back in time. I love albums that remind you of certain periods of your life. :)
