While it can bedebated as to whether Bali was directed at us specifically. There is no doubt as to whose Thursday's car bomb outside the Australian Embassy in Jakarta. 11 killed and 161 wounded. There should be plenty in the papers about this attack. If there isn't www.smh.com.au should have plenty for you. The bomb was created by SE Asia's most active terrorist group, the Muslim Extremists, Jemaah Islamiah who is linked to Al Qaeda but usually do their own thing.

It's a shame, but that's what happens when you join up with murderers. Terrorism is just the word we use when one of our allies is on the wrong end of an attack. The USA and it's coalition is the largest group of terrorists in the world. Killing is wrong, whether it's done by a government, or a privately funded group.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

What happened in Jakarta has NOTHING to do with Iraq or anything else like that. If you looked into the regional politics, you'll find out a lot of Jemaah Islamiah's feelings against us are for when we kicked the Indonesians out of East Timor and gave them back their independence. East Timor was a territory that was annexed by the Indonesians about 30 years ago. After multiple atrocities, a few years ago we kicked the Indonesians out and installed a UN peace keeping force, primarily consisting of Australians (also some Kiwis). This preceded GWB's election to the White House. The bombing of the Sari club in Bali in 2002 was also before the Iraq kerfuffle and happened during the Afghan war. 202 people lost their lives in that attack after a suicide bomber ran into a corwded night club and blew himself up in the popular tourist destination. Please do some research into the local politics before you ride in on the high moral police horse so you don't look like a fool next time.
And no, terrorism is NOT when an ally is at the wrong end of an attack. Terrorism is used when an attack is launched against civilian targets in a bid to install fear and "terror" among the local populace. Civilian targets in war are for lack of a better term, collateral damage... with terror, they are the targets.

as you i we don't really know Austrailian politics, so we can't understand. ut from my point of view i think it may also have a connection to Iraq. Spain, Britain, Japan, and Austrailia will probably all suffer counter strikes. Spain, and Japan already have, and possibly now Aus.
but like you said we really don't know anything, but it also should send you message that you don't nessesarily understand Canadian-American relations, so to say that an attack, or subversion on the Canadian public is immposible is ignorant as well. In Austrailia you are much more removed from Americana. I don't think American's even understand the American Culture that is forced on us from our birth. Which is why so many of us Canadian's are so inclined to speak about American politics as if it's our own country, because in a great many ways, we have as much at stake as they do.

Thats very true. Most Canadians follow the elections, and even some have car decals supporting [democrats, i hope 
]. In Canada, and especially living on the border where I and many other CMer's do, we constantly see and hear americana, get all the American television channels, American news[CNN esp.], etc etc. Its difficult to not have a political view about America when you're bombarded by its Politics daily.

yeah i understand. I think the one of the main reasons Canada has no definate Cultural identity is because of America't dominating influence. We never had a chance to form our own instead we had American culture pressed on us with a British flavour.
Not to say it's all America't fault of course, the other main reason is that Canada has to many diverse cultures of people living in it. Actually i can't think of a more diverse country, can anyone else?

Nope. Canada is most definetly the most diverse country in the world. You can be anyone, practicing anything, and looking like whatever you want, and you'll still be accepted. Thats why its so great to live here. but Canada does have some culture! We say "Eh" and we love HOCKEY and We have French People too... *thinks hard* We're also, peaceful diplomats. And we're Liberal too. Lots of good stuff in there.

Yes, Australia has a much more diverse culture than Canada (from what I experienced anyways). I really don't want to turn this into a my country is better than yours debate. But I've been to Canada, and travelled it extensively and it smy experience that Australia is more diverse than Canada. If you guys ever come here I'll show you how 
hmmm i know Austrailia is very diverse, for the same reasons Canada is, being a colony and all. But i think Canada is probably more so, although maybe we're the same, i've heard people say that Aus is the Canada of the eastern Hemisphere. Not to mention you have many of the same problems with the Native population.

yeah for the most part the climate is pretty rough, but if you grow up with it it's ok. Plus i can't imagine life without 4 very distinct seasons. Not to mention a childhood without wintertime fun? i can't even imagine it. Manitoba itself probably has the most Diverse climate in Canada. We have the hottest summers, heat that is the same as most of Aus (excluding central), but then we have Winters that get as cold as Siberian Russia
