Why haven't you gone metric?

Post by I AM ME »

really folks why? Metric is much much easier to learn in chool and it all makes logical sence using 10's.

Millemeter = 1/1000 of a meter
Centemeter = 1/100 of a meter
Decameter = 1/10 of a meter
and so on everything just goes by factors of ten, there's no uneven stange conversions

I don't know. American's like to be different I suppose. It's severely annoying though, I wish we would just all be the same.

It's much more fun using 2 systems.

I use centimetres for small lengths, but miles for long ones.

And grams for small weights and pounds and stones for bigger ones.

:D
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

I am very proud to be a metric Canadian but I am very confused as to why we don't metrisize here in Newfoundland.

Well no. Thats not true. We always use the metric system. But recently our hockey arena center thing was called Mile One.

I am going to take this oppertunity to hang my head in shame.
and mild confusion.

meteric owns!!

as for mixing, yeah most canadian's don't use kilograms except for when measuring some products and foods, for example almost every canadian uses their wait in pounds, not kilograms. Same with Feet instead of decameters or meters when mesuring a person's height. I think it just comes down to tradition though. I know most of both systems, but sometimes i find American conversions confusing, like how many inches are in a yard? in metric it's easy, 100 cm in one meter

Personally I think the metric system is fantastic stuff, but its simplicity is its only downfall.

You see, its a little scenario called, "Death by a decimal point"
If a Doctor (for example) prescribes 10mg of a certain pill but places the decimal point only 1 place to the right accidentally the 10mg turns to 100mg and the patient will overdose on the pills accidentally.
This IS rare, and it not only happens with Perscriptions, but with anything involving the metric system!
Although it is much more logical that stupid Imperial... :evil:

Oh, I get it now. Americans are just too stupid to handle decimal places.

Should never have expected you folks to catch on to that. My mistake.
