Just wondering what you guys thought of this.
Personally, I find it hard to understand why Bush is against Taiwan's seperation from China when they're simply seeking democracy. Something tells me this is more about the chinese economy and Taiwan's importance.
It's not as if the Taiwanese pose any threat to the world if they were to seperate. Even in canada there was a referendum held for Quebec's attempt to separate...
Any of you guys have any imput cause I'm rather stumped.

I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

It always amases me at some of your lack of knowledge yet you can jump to such conclusions. #1 Bush hasn't changed any policy towards the issue he just made it known rather than keeping it ambiguous. #2 Taiwan is a DEMOCRACY. Right now as it stands there is one China with two systems. Its working fine and thats what the US wants. They support the status quo. #3 If The US was to totally back Tawain the end of the world would no doubt result. A war between China and the US could not be won. Nukes would be used and none of us would be here to talk about it.
"We can't allow the world's worst leaders to blackmail, threaten, hold freedom-loving nations hostage with the world's worst weapons" - George W. Bush
Well upon reading the article I found on Yahoo, I decided to read a whole lot more on the issue.
Why should a place, which is completely different from the rest of a country, have to remain a part of that country if it doesn't want to? If the people want independence shouldn't they be given the chance for it? It just seems like an immense double standard. Some people (Iraq) are allowed freedom, while others apparently aren't.
The Taiwanese don't want one China. They don't even consider themselves Chinese. They want to be seperate. And I don't see why they shouldn't have that right.
This is immensely wrong. They may have democracy, but what's the point of having a democratic system when you can't even use it to your advantage?
Venom can you please try to explain to all of us, how one man could desire that the people of Iraq be free, while the people of Taiwan aren't allowed to have their own freedom, without the threat of being attacked?
The USA doesn't need to back Taiwan 100%, but they should be promoting to the Chinese govt, their very own sacred democratic ideals, which would promote non-retalitory action towards Taiwan's people.

Its amazing to me that you didn't support the US freeing the Iraqi's who weren't free at all, but you totally support Taiwan breaking free of the mainland when they already have democracy. When you admit that you are just Anti-American then I will debate with you. Until then its not worth my time. I for one don't want the US supporting a country that already has freedom and democracy (they just aren't a sovereign) when we could very well get caught up in a nuclear war that will kill 6.5 billion people.
I'm anti-American Government Policy. My dad is an American citizen, so I'm obviously not Anit-American. I don't hate Americans, I just dislike this administrations policies.

Double standards. Iraq has oil. Taiwan doesn't. Very simply put.
Freedom my ass.
And if we're anti-American, why the hell are we supporting Dean (and Al Gore)?
The fact of the matter is that Bush is trying to run the world in his own vision - to benefit Americans and not to give a damn about anything else. Just look at the list of countries (companies) that were supported to start re-building Iraq. Why the hell would you want Micronesia to start re-building Iraq? What does Micronesia have to offer? Does Canada, France, Germany not have more? Unfortunately, these countries are not on the list. These countries pretty much did not support Bush on the war on Iraq. And look at the consequences. Instead of helping to re-build Iraq like a global world should, the US is re-building Iraq like they planned to all along.

Some of you might want to drop the whole Bush is to blame bit on this issue. I'm not much into politics because I think it's all crap...but this issue about Taiwan's independance has been around long before the Bushes. This has been an issue since 1987 when Taiwan finally became a democracy. I just remeber my dad and friends of the family talking about it. Especialy during Taiwanese American Association events. A big factor on American involvment (or non-involvement) is this fragile relationship the US has with China...whatever that may be. I think it's the fact that China has the ability to kick the crap out of the United States both in sheer number of people, and their technological (nuclear) potentials. Has nothing to do with oil...

to the victor go the spoils. although since Canada and germany sent money into Iraq, i think they should have got in on the bidding.
Whenever death may surprise us,
let it be welcome
if our battle cry has reached even one receptive ear
and another hand reaches out to take up our arms.
Nobody's gonna miss me, no tears will fall, no ones gonna weap, when i hit that road.
my boots are broken my brain is sore, fer keepin' up with thier little world, i got a heavy load.
gonna leave 'em all just like before, i'm big city bound, your always 17 in your hometown
