Yeah, that sounds about right.

He has more of a chance getting hit by a car crossing a street than getting hit by one of those old shoulder-fired missiles.

Yes, let's try to back up a sarcastic joke with some facts!

1. It was a joke, and most people take it that way
2. He is clearly a sarcastic man, as you can see from his previous posts
3. You need to calm down, he was just trying to be humorous

I think those three facts pretty much back up the sarcasm.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Well the FACTS are that it was a very dangerous trip. 100 coalition troops were killed in 1 month. You don't think the terrorists and insurgent forces would have wanted to take a shot at the man who is in charge of the American military?? Come on!

he's also in danger when ever he goes out in public in america, it's part of his job as president though, if he's a man he'll go out and do things for his country. Of course this is teh same man that scurried like a scared rat when the terrorist attacks started......the only president in history to do so during a war

What in the bloody hell are you talking about? #1 He's hardly in as much danger in the US as he would be in Iraq. The environment is a tad bit different here. There are a lot of people who dislike him, but not many that would actually kill him. #2 Where do you get your information??? Ran and hid during the attacks?? He was at a school in Florida when the attacks started and stayed there. He didn't run anywhere! After the attacks he came TO Washington DC. If anyone ran it was Dick Cheney but its standard procedure for the VP to be at a different location than the President during such an event. Why do I even bother arguing with you. Please research before you post crap like that. May I ask where you heard such a thing???

All it takes is one man who would want to kill him for it to happen. 1 out of 300 million. Look at all the assassinations/attempts that have occured in US history.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

That doesn't make it as dangerous here as in Iraq. I'm not seeing your logic.

uh,

a. the iraqui insurgents had no time to prepare for an attack on bush. his visit was a surprise. nobody knew about it. you don't actually believe that the resistance has any sort of meaningful intelligence gathering capability. nobody even knew he was in iraq except for the troops stationed at that base.

b. all of the resistance's success has come by way of guerilla, hit and run ambushes on humvees and the like. they would never stand a chance with a direct attack on an american military fortification.

c. even if they had attacked, it would take an act of god to get them within striking range of the president. you don't think the well trained, heavily armed american troops wouldn't take every possible security measure to protect their president from a bunch of guys with AK-47's and a few RPG's?

#1 who says they have to have time to plan?? They have shown that they can attack at a moments notice. #2 All they had to do was lob a few morters (or rockets) at that huge target (the tent he was in). Its foolish to think that we had every street, alley, and building within a couple miles fully covered. The immediate area around the tent...of course...but not miles around on lockdown. People would have known something was up and no Iraqi has come forward and said that there was ton of security in the city that evening.

once again, my point a. still stands. they had no way of knowing he was there. we didn't even know he was there until after he left. the only risk he was taking is that they would choose to randomly attack the location he was in.

They don't have to know hes there for him to be at risk. They take morter attacks all the time. They could have struck while he was there. Also you don't know that someone didn't see him land or see a large procession of vehicles leave the airport. All it would have taken was one person to see this and they would know someone "special" was there. You forget that the Iraqi's have nightvision goggles that were supplied by France and Russia in the years before the war. Someone could have easily saw Air Force One land.

the iraqui army had nightvision goggles. it's not like each and every iraqui has a pair. you're not fighting the army any more, you're fighting a bunch of rebel insurgents.

seriously, let's be realistic here - if there was even an outside chance of any real danger befalling the president, he wouldn't have gone.

You don't think some these "insurgents" are former members of the army?? Care to back that up?

You make it seem like launching mortars accurately is an easy task. Funny how most mortar attacks on U.S./"coalition" bases cause no damage cause they missed by a wide margin.

just thought i'd mention that i read in the paper the other day that this turkey wasn't even real . . . i know it doesn't add to the discussion but i found it kind of amusing, and somwhat confirms that this was a least partially a good photo op.

Bush wasn't in a lot of danger going into Iraq. I mean, it's not like he was walking downtown or anything. He came completely unanounced into the middle of a massive piece of now-US territory (you wouldn't believe how hard it was to not type "terrorist" after "US"). He was surrounded by american troops, and likely came in on an unmarked helicopter, much like the others that fly in and out of there all day.
