Now that's a photo op for the upcoming election!!
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything

Hell, this is even being described by pro-Bush media as a "two-hour photo op". They, of course, are meaning it with positive connotations...

"Hello there people, I am having you and your friends sent out to protect a city and most likely send someone you know to an early grave! Vote Bush in 2004!"
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Sure, they're enjoying it. As an exagerated comparison, I'm sure Nazis would have been honoured by a visit from Hitler...

i have a few comments

1) i think his gesture was sincere
2) i think he has a hold of those troops now. maybe morale was slipping. but he has a hold of them now.

Wow Doug! I'm shocked. I also believe it was sincere. He's not gonna risk his life for a stupid "photo op" as Rob describes it. There are plenty of other ploys to try to win over voters that he can use rather than risking his life.

He was hardly risking his life. No one would be able to even get close to him. hell you can't even get close to him in the US, which is his own country. To say he was risking his life, is to say that I was risking mine when I crosed the road this morning.

i think it was risking his life.

he's the president. of the united states.

in iraq.

obviously it was relatively safe or he wouldn't have made the trip. but it was a big enough risk that they didn't tell anybody.

Not that I care for Bush all that much... but I agree that he was risking his life, and that it was a very nice gesture.

Remember, he had to fly there... think about all the helicopters and such that have been shot down in Iraq. It definitely wasn't the safest thing in the world.

if he was sincere i commend him and give him his due, but we'll never really know. Plus it IS kindy fishy with the elections looming

ain't shit to do in Crawford, Texas. A bad day in Iraq with troops is still better then a good day with the in-laws in Crawford.

Consider the technical aspects of this:
The terrorist only possess old Soviet SA-7 (Strelas) shoulder fired anti-aircraft missiles, which misses 75% of its targets WITHOUT countermeasures. And when it did hit a large plane, it cause minimal damage (i.e. DHL cargo jet). How much of a chance does it have of hitting and damaging a 747 equipped with the lastest in electronic countermeasures and IR jamming devices.

He was definately not risking his life for the 3 hours he spent in an American military base.
