Yes I do have family members currently in the armed forces as well as previously. My cousin is an officer in the Marine Corp, my uncle was in the Air Force, and my Grandfather was in the Air Force during WWII stationed in Okinawa.

I respect conservitives bt his dad is a Redneck/Extreme Rightist/bigot, it sadden me to see it all wearing off on his son. I'm not implying anything about you or your father venom, but i can definatly see the ideology at work

Unsolicited military intervention, "decisive victory" turning into a dragged-out conflict, The Draft...

I hate to make the obvious comparison, but... Vietnam II?

Well you are making a huge assumption that I am a puppet of my family and you couldn't be more wrong in that assumption. My family is extremely religious, I am the only one that isn't religious at all. My dad is going back to school part time to become a minister, I haven't stepped foot in a church since I was about 12. I have never really discussed politics with my family because they brought be up and allowed me to make my own decisions on things. They have NEVER pushed views on me.

I'm not implying anything about you or your father venom, but i can definatly see the ideology at work

Without even knowing my parents view you are saying you can see thier ideology at work?? How is that possible? If you wanna make assumptions fine, you may hit something on the head, you may look like a fool like you do here, BUT DO NOT assume you know my parents and their ideology. As I stated they are deeply religious and I am an not. I'm sure you can see where our views have a very different twist when it comes to many issues!

no venom i didn't mean to imply anything from what i can see if what you said is ture you were raised the same as me minus havinga religous family. What i was saying though is, it's been proven that the military uses mental programming, i don't mean it in a crazy conspiracy theory way, but they do reprogram the recruitees. Then when parenting and everything action afterwards they reflect the morals and ideas that have been programmed. I don't know your father but i assume the American Army is no diffrent then the Canadian Airbournes

Why do you keep refering to my father???? My father was never in the military. My cousin, uncle, and GRANDFATHER were! I have never really talked to my grandfather about his service other than basic things so he didn't "program" me.

That is a rather condescending statement to make. Why is it so unfathomable that people can feel the way I do on various topics? When I was young and naive I was a leftist. I was rebellious against my parents, the government, etc. Then I grew up, read a LOT of books, and went through 6 years of college (university to the Canadians). I came to these views by educating myself on the issues not listening to the media, hollywood actors, musicians, etc. I feel I have a good grip on where the world is heading and what needs to be done. I thought I knew it all when I was in high school. I was wrong.

i haven't come upon my opinions through media or any other means, it's morals that i have formed on what is right and wrong. Know matter how much education i have i don't think i'm ever going to think that death, vioence, lies, war, and guns are good things. I also happen to be someone who doesn't have much regard for money, i'm rather irrisponsible with it because it frankly isn't the meaning of life to many. Money plays a large role in the right wing tradition. It's not a bad thing, obviously right wing parties are better for the economy except in cases were ou have complete fuck ups, but i'm more of a socila issues person, i'm willing to pay money to someone else, for the better of everyone and i'm willing to have my money go to social programs like medicare

I totally agree with you (well except the guns part......hunting is not bad and that includes guns). Everything you listed there is bad, but what you have to realize is that sometimes its necessary. Thats the way the world works and theres no way around that. Worldwide peace is unattainable, and sometimes war is necessary to stop something worse.

I agree with you when you say that sometime things are really necessary, but on the other side of things, things aren't necessary. The war on terrorism, at the time, was necessary. The entire country was scared shitless and, for the most part, Bush handled the situation perfectly. If we had any idea about the location of bin Laden, then everything would be fine in that situation, but we just don't know.

The flipside to the necessary reactions is the whole situation in Iraq. Yes, I know Saddam didn't let us into his country when the UN demanded inspectors in there, but the reaction was ridiculous. It seems as if Hussein just didn't want strangers rummaging through his country. You can't blame the man. Now the UN (mostly the USA) is running their lives over there, over a threat that didn't exist. That's what I find to be the unnecessary reaction.

I don't even think I said anything with those two paragraphs, but hey, it's all good.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

no, you did. I think you summed up how all of us are thinking.

The war on terrorism as fine. I understand you want Bin Laden. But how that leads to a war on Iraq was troubling. Bush wanted Iraq from day one, and had to go through Afghanistan first to do it. Everyone knows this.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

yeah i'd just like to mention also, the reason Saddam didn't want people rummaging through is country is probably do to pride, remeber he's meglo and he has a huge pride, it hurts his ego to have his enemy doing whatever they please with him. Also sure he may have had a few secrets but i doubt WMD was one of them, EVERY country has dirty little secrets, America is one of them

on a side note, i don't really agree with hunting, but i'm not really against it. I have friends that do it and it's fine with me, i'm not an animals activist. The thing i don't agree with is it's not really a sport. Sneak up on it and kill it with a knife, NOW THAT IS A REAL SPORT. That's fair and challenging, with the technology today it's just be quite, point and shoot. Give the dear a weaapon that can take you down from teh distance a gun can and then it's something respectable. But that's just my opinion, as i said i'm not horriedfied by hunting or anything, i just think it's joke how people have taken it so far that it's something a 8 year old could easily be good at

No it had to do with him not being able to kill people for sport and entertainment anymore. His Saturday night killing parties are over.
