yeah well the question was to find professional athletes on a vegetarian/vegan diet .. I found an entire list of professional athletes .. whether they are "good" in your eyes or not is not the issue .. I proved it's possible to succeed and be in good shape while maintaining a healthy vegetarian diet .. whether you approve of the athletes really doesn't matter ... and if you've ever been rowing or competed in a rowing competition you would realize how in shape you need to be and how physically demanding it is.

OK Rob, let me just say, I will cut you if you use my "get over yourself" ever again. I mean I will flat out stab you in your stupid fucking head.

Beyond that, all is well. Rowing = very tough. It's comparable to running a marathon, but for your arms, depending on how far you go. I am just curious as to if Hank Aaron was a vegetarian when he was playing, or was one after he retired. I find it hard to believe he could hit for so much power eating bread and carrots all the time, but maybe I'm wrong. He could have been popping steroids all day long.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Joey, I just wanna say, I've agreed with just about everything you've said and feel the same way. Well, except the dairy part, and I eat eggs, too, which I assume you also don't. (I'm an ovo-laco vegetarian.)

Anyway, I wish I had come into this thread earlier so you weren't practically alone in defending vegetarianism. Sorry bout that. But I'm here now! Course, doesn't matter how much we defend ourselves, nobody'll understand and they'll continue to pick on us and pretty much imply we're stupid and don't know what we're talking about, even though we've researched it and they haven't.

Joey wrote:I've already investigated nearly every fast food joint in canada and the us  Plus I have my nifty guide to fast food places that goes over what's vegan/vegetarian and what isn't.

I have one question... WHERE DID YOU GET THAT GUIDE!!!??? Nikki want. No need. Bad.

*hopes she can buy or read a copy online*

wanan wrote:I suppose people eat meat because (generally speaking), they enjoy the taste of meat, and enjoy eating it. Whether healthy or not it doesn't matter (to most people). People still eat candy, which is not particularly good for you, but they eat it because they enjoy the taste.

Precisely... but when you eat candy, you didn't cost a living, breathing creature it's life. It's very selfish to eat an animal just because it "tastes good", if there's a pefectly healthy (in many cases healthier) substitute. Course, to me, food tastes just as good (read: better) when there's no dead animals in it, but even if I were a huge fan of meat, I would've still given it up. It's murder for pleasure... and that to me is not justified in any way.

Now here's someone that needs to get over herself. I'll put it bluntly enough so you can understand this Nikki. Joey comes into a thread saying being a vegetarian is good. We ask her why. She answers. Some people have their doubts about her responses, so Joey responds to them again. Then you come in here acting all high and mighty trying to draw pity to you oh so discriminated against vegetarians. No one is telling you that you can't be a vegetarian, so, I think I am speaking for everyone in this thread when I say to you, not Joey, to get over yourself and shut up unless you're going to bring something to this thread that's beyond self pity. Thanks.

The ignorance in this thread is disgusting .. if you aren't interested in vegetarianism or learning about it and can't even respect it, then why come in this thread except to cause trouble? I've done nothing but answer questions, treat everyone with respect even though more than half of you posting don't even deserve it.

Alan: It is a stereotypical response to say vegetarians eat only bread and carrots .. that statement was beyond ignorant. You've been ignoring this thread for nearly all 6 pages, do us all a favor and continue to ignore it. I'm sure there's plenty of other threads where you can go and hurl your insults.

Everything Nikki said was correct .. no matter how many links I post or how many times I prove a point or how much research I do to answer your questions, I get shit on time and time again. Why? Simple, because people don't understand it and people don't want to understand it .. this is what brainwashing does to you kids.

Nikki you can order that guide to fast food for $4.00 here: http://www.vrg.org/catalog/ff.htm

I too just noticed this thread... decided to read through the 6 pages.
I think Joey's done a good job at answering everything you guys have thrown at her. She's not shoving things done your throat. She's merely answering everything you guys have asked.

Honestly though how can someone who has done this much research into being a vegetarian possibly be doing the wrong thing? It's not as if she woke up one morning and said ok it's time to stop eating meat. She's obviously looked at the facts and has made an educated decision for herself.

If you're not a vegetarian then at least respect the choice to become one. I think she provides a sound argument.

as well, Al, I think that was definately uncalled for. The list she provided contained some of the greatest athletes that have ever lived, and your comment was really unnecessary.

Anyways that's all I have to say...
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

I swear to God, you're the worst person at sensing humor ever. I know vegetarians eat more than bread and carrots, I am not a moron. You want me to list every fucking food that a vegetarian eats, ever? I mean, I can attempt and make the list just for you babe. I just wanted to know if it was after Aaron's playing days or not, which you chose to not answer.

And on top of that, I have not said people are stupid for being vegetarians. You just like to make shit up. So how about you either shut the fuck up or speak the truth, either way, we'll all be better off.

By the way, I like how you tell us non-vegetarians who aren't interested in your propaghanda to not come in this thread. Last time I checked, this thread it called the "Fast Food Nation" thread, which is a book, not a thread about you telling us why meat is evil.

Just to let you know, no one in here is telling you that you're wrong for being a vegetarian. If you believe otherwise, please bring up a quote, especially from me, where anyone said being vegetarian is evil. You say said meat is bad for you, and people here ask questions. You answer the questions, and people have more for you. If you can't handle people asking you why you're telling them that everything they've been taught by their parents is wrong, then don't take a thread about a book and make it about how vegetarians are great. No one denied that. If you don't want to answer questions about the shit you brought up, then don't bring it up. It works out quite nicely. If you don't open your mouth, then this thread remains on topic, people talk about an amazing book, and we're all happy.

God, even when I agree with you, you still find ways to take offense to what I say. It's un-fucking-canny.

Alan try reading the book and then telling me it has nothing to do what I'm talking about .. this book is about the fast food industry, how horrible the meat industry is etc etc .. which leads to vegetarianism and the meat free lifestyle.

I have no problems with people asking me questions as you've noticed .. considering I've researched and answered everyone's questions respectfully and as honestly as I can. Even providing link after link to support my answers. I do have a problem with people being inconsiderate about it though. Not once have I said meat is evil .. all I've said is that it's unhealthful and I provided links and statistics for why I feel that way.

I'm sorry if I don't find this topic funny and can't joke about it .. I take this very seriously considering it's a lifestyle change and something I feel very strongly about. If I wanted to joke about a book I'll go read Dr. Suess.

Interesting, I'm the one that makes stuff up? Please do point out where I said you said people are stupid for being vegetarians. So how you about speak the truth because I have never said anything even remotely close to that.

Rufus Wainwright wrote:By the way, I like how you tell us non-vegetarians who aren't interested in your propaghanda to not come in this thread. Last time I checked, this thread it called the "Fast Food Nation" thread, which is a book, not a thread about you telling us why meat is evil.

I said if you people (not non vegetarians) are not interested in this, then to ignore the thread rather then come in and argue. Simple request. Nothing I'm saying is propaghanda but proven facts and statistics and everything has been supported with links and research. And like I said above, not once did I say meat is evil.

A lot of this so called shit is being brought up by other people and these people are asking me things, which I've answered and like I said above, I do not have a problem with answering questions by people seriously interested in this topic. This thread is on topic until the insults start ..
