the fact is this.

who cares if we cut our friendship with france.
do they have anything we want? no, i dont think so.

when u come right down to it, its about survival. we were attacked, we defended ourselves, "our friend" france said they dont agree, so we said fuck you, we are surviving and screw you if you dont agree. that's how the world works kids. when it comes down to it, you're going to look out for youself in the end. its all about number one. you can preach all day about how its good to look out for other people and blah blah blah, but in the end its always the same thing....looking out for your own survival. it's animal instinct. survive and breed. that's all life really is. everyday when you go to work, you don't go there to help other people. you go there to make money to buy food so you can survive. anyone who gets in your way can just take a back seat. and like i said before, what are we getting from france again? they have a weak ass army and really no needed goods. france is what we like to call an "old world" country. the country is like a big museum. thats basically all its good for.

Iraq Attacked you?!?! Why wasn't i informed! I guess i was wrong all this time i thought it was a terrorist organization that was harbored in Afgahnistan. France is only a museum?

PS i'm even going to touch your selfishness and cold-heartedness with a 30 foot pole, all i know is genuinly DO care for people, i DO help people for the feeling of pride and good doing, and i not only stay in my job because i get payed but i actually enjoy teaching children and making a impact on there lives

and that is your selfish motivation for doing so. if helping people left you feeling unhappy and ashamed, you wouldn't do it. you only help other people because you get a return out of it: namely, a "feeling of pride and good doing".

and i not only stay in my job because i get payed but i actually enjoy teaching children and making a impact on there lives

well i hope you're not teaching them spelling and grammar!

cheap shit i suppose, it's well known how much care i take in my typing and spelling. And i do agree everyone is selfish in that respect, but what i was referring to was a much worse form of selfishness, if you truly don't give a damn about anyone else but yourself, then that's a huge symptom of being a Sociopath. If that is your true outlook you may want to have a psychological exam.

As for teaching, i teach babysitter's courses, life saving courses such as first aid and bronze cross, swimming programs, school water programs. Your right i may take a selfish pleasure in teaching children and being their favorite teacher. But i think it's one of the better selfish things i can do. I also have the satisfaction of knowing i've physically rescued and saved more then one life, and i protect people for a living. I could have a much better job, with better pay, and more hours, but i LIKE helping people and doing these things for the community. If more people cared about other people in this world we wouldn't have so many atrocities

you could interpret it that way, of course if you asked Freud, he'd tell you that every action a person ever makes is completely selfish, so it all comes down to interpretation.

there is a difference between being selfish, and being selfish by helping others. If you fail to see how helping others is actually a good thing for our world then that is very sad, and I sure as hell hope that I'm not drowning in a pool while you're around...

I still don't understand how you can believe that being selfish, is much better than being selfish but helping others. If it weren't for people like you guys, who have the same mindset, we probably would not have many of the problems you see in our world. To think that you don't want to pay some taxes, which inevitably chip in to help pay for vaccinations in third world countries, seems retty selfish.
Just because you happen to be fine, at least half the world isn't. What gives you the right to allow other people to die of disease and starvation, while you sit there with your mcdonalds and tylenol?

Anyways thats all I can post right now... This conversation usually seems to go nowhere anyways, but if by chance it does I'll be back tonight.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

Yes, of course if you asked just about any current psycolygist(sp?) they would say that most of Freud's theories are false. His main theory (that of the unconsious) has just about been *proved* incorrect.

Clumsyboy - so, essentialy, you work where you do because you enjoy your job and it pays you a wage that you can live on.

how come it almost feels like you want to be put on a pedastal because of it? i'm an insurance salesman, you're a lifeguard. is your job of higher moral value then mine? of course not.

you believe strongly in social causes and that's all well and good, but you need to accept the fact that others may not share that belief and what's more, there is nothing wrong with that fact.

why is it "very sad" if an individual cannot find merit in self-sacrifice?

I still don't understand how you can believe that being selfish, is much better than being selfish but helping others.

I think I've explained this enough times. It is my right to pursue action that betters my own life. If I choose to pursue only actions that lead to a positive "pay off" for me, then that is still my right. It is not up to you to lay judgements on me for doing so - try having an open mind.

This is practical rational and is ethical. oh, and don't forget fair.

If it weren't for people like you guys, who have the same mindset, we probably would not have many of the problems you see in our world.

I disagree. Would you care to substansiate that accusation?

I believe the source of many of our difficulties is in fact the state. i can substansiate that accusation - you name a problem, i'll tell you how the government has caused it.

To think that you don't want to pay some taxes, which inevitably chip in to help pay for vaccinations in third world countries, seems retty selfish.

It is selfish. But if you really think anything more then .0000001 of your tax money goes to things like vaccinations in third world countries, you are misleading yourself. most tax money is spent maintaining the giant government we have.

Just because you happen to be fine, at least half the world isn't. What gives you the right to allow other people to die of disease and starvation, while you sit there with your mcdonalds and tylenol?

What gives me the right? I can't believe you're asking that! I have the right to my own life - i own my own life and i own all the products of my time and my talents. THAT's what gives me the right. NOBODY in africa or anywhere in the world has ANY claim to my life or anything i make or do with my life.

I am a man, and I am an end in myself, not a means to an end. Until you learn to recognize men as such, you will never respect them and you will never understand me.

People are not tools for your cause. they are people.

Oh you teach kids? You want a medal? That's great that you take joy in your work but don't act like you're this great role model and that everyone else should be more like you. I imagine I make a lot more money than you and in turn, with that money, me spending it helped maintain the jobs of dozens of workers at other jobs. Look at that, my "selfishness" kept people at work so that they could help support their families with their income. I also pay a lot more tax money than you which supposively helps out the community. Again, I appreciate what you do, but don't look down on people who strive to make as much money as possible. If only everyone was as ambitious we wouldn't have the problems we do today.

How is this any different then when a country takes actions to better the lives of its citizens as a whole. I have seen you criticize such actions that YOU believe to be for the betterment of peoples lives at the cost of others. Maybe I am missing something but you seem to be being very hypocritical. One minute you are standing up for people who may or may not be suffering at the expense of others but now you are standing up for your right to better yourself and not caring for others. I'm confused to your philosophy here? Anyone else?

Venom, you're confused because when you read the words i type they don't make it to your brain in the same format as how i typed them.

it's a problem you have, skewing what i say.

How is this any different then when a country takes actions to better the lives of its citizens as a whole.

Well it's a lot different, venom, because the heads of state that make decisions for the country don't own the lives of any of the citizens living there. therefore they can't make ethical decisions about how the citizens should use their lives.

not to mention, the actions you're describing probably cost some of the above mentioned citizens their lives/prosperity. again, neither the state nor any other citizens have the right to compromise the lives of their fellow men.

I have seen you criticize such actions that YOU believe to be for the betterment of peoples lives at the cost of others.

I can't understand what you're accusing me of here. If you're saying that i criticize actions where one group is compromised for the betterment of another group, then you'd be right, i do. but i don't see how i'm contradicting myself by doing so.

Maybe I am missing something but you seem to be being very hypocritical. One minute you are standing up for people who may or may not be suffering at the expense of others but now you are standing up for your right to better yourself and not caring for others. I'm confused to your philosophy here? Anyone else?

Venom, your use of the english language makes your point very difficult to understand here. How can someone be suffering at someone elses expense?

I don't stand up for any group beside the individual. i believe fully that the individual has the right to make his own decisions about his own life. i don't believe that any individual has a claim to any other individuals life.

are you clear now?
