Ok, see, I would probably end up in the bathtub with a toaster if I gave up cheese.

If you miss pizza, then why don't you make yourself some with soy cheese?

I definitely couldn't become a vegan. I love cheese so much. I mean, I'll sit and eat a chunk of mozza for a snack. Cheese

I applaud all of you vegetarians/vegans. I could never do that just because of my cravings for certain foods. :)

i feel sorry for the vegan/vegitarian types.

they'll never know the wonder that is the heart attack on a bun.

I hate when people say they "can't" do it .. you can .. you just choose not too .. big difference

Don't feel sorry for vegans/vegetarians .. it's more than likely that heart attack on the bun that inspired them to change. Not everyone likes to eat feces on a bun

Joey, you are awesome. I have been a vegetarian for over a year and I want to go vegan. I plan on doing it as soon as I have enough money to buy myself special foods (you see, I'm a poor college student, forced to live off the meal plans in the cafeteria). You are an awesome, awesome kid.

I haven't read this book, but now I really want too. I think I shall purchase it soon.
don't look now, just keep watching the TV hating what's too see waiting for someone to say something that's right.

aww thanks

yeah that's what sucks about being the only vegetarian/vegan in the house, i buy my own groceries .. before i was used to sponging off of whatever my mom brought home .. then again i am 24 years old so I guess it's time i learned how to buy my own food .. dammit

it is tougher when you're in school since most schools don't offer a lot of vegetarian options in the cafeteria, least of of vegan options .. though subway makes a mean veggie delite sub and the italian bread is vegan :D

It's funny how outraged people were when over in China people started throwing their dogs/cats out of windows and killing them in the streets etc because they thought SARS was carried by them. Yet those same people can sit down and eat a piece of a cow .. boggles the mind. A dog or a cow .. why is one considered more important then the other? People are outraged when they hear cases of animal abuse, yet don't think twice about what torture the pig/cow currently sitting on their plate went through .. doesn't make sense to me. I've never understand where people got the idea that animals = food ... then again not much in this world makes sense to me.

Probably because humans have always eaten meat to survive, so its hard to think of certain animals as anything other than food. Like so many things in society, we have it engrained in our heads from the time we're born. We aren't the only animals who eat meat either. Maybe that's why, I'm not sure.

Have you ever seen the Simpsons episode when Lisa decides to become a vegetarian? My god, that episode is hilarious especially the 'educational video'.

Just thought of another reason: We also don't see where our food comes from. All we see is the end product in the grocery store. There is a total disconnect between us and the food we eat and where it comes from. Think about soup for a second and I bet the first thing that comes to mind is a can, there's no thought about where the contents came from, or the can, or how it got to be in the can. Also, when I moved to the city a few years ago I was shocked by how many people I met who had never actually seen a cow in the flesh.

I took a course last year that touched on that briefly. But there was also another example, and I forget it exactly. It was something like young school children were looking at a picture of a cow and asked what came from it. The person asked if cheese came from the cow and hardly any of the kids agreed that it did. I wish I could remember it properly, it was a great example.

My relatives have a cow and she's a real sweety. Nonetheless, I adore my rare steak  As for the animals = food connection, um, since humans have ALWAYS eaten animals, and it's not a cultural thing since it's entirely global, I'd say that it's probably instinctual since we are animals that are designed to have meat as part of our diet... just like the many other omnivorous/carnivorous animals in creation :)

The whole humans are "meant" to eat meat is a load of crap ... people always say that .. just because you don't know where your meat comes from, doesn't mean it's okay to eat it and shrug it off as "it's all we know" .. ignorance doesn't equal bliss .. it's just plain ignorance. We're not designed to eat meat, humans don't NEED meat to survive .. it's not a necessity .. just because it's how things always were, doesn't make it right.

And actually when I think of a can of soup I do think of where the ingredients come from .. I pay attention to what I put in my body.

Reno .. I can wash the shit off of my vegetables :P You can't exactly "wash" your meat or disinfect what's in your milk and cheese :P
