what don't I know about past ties with France? We liberated them from Germany, they gave us a little help with the British in the revolution (only for thier own benefit). Since the revolution we have been great allies until now. What am I not acknowledging. I will admit the "freedom fries" thing was lame, but so are the most wanted American cards. Allies should always back one another up unless the one is grossly out of line. Getting rid of Saddam is not grossly out of line. Wouldn't you stand by your friends through almost anything?
They helped more then a little, do you really think a colony could have got it's freedom from the Worlds Largest Power (probably in all of history) by themselves? Without French Tactics and Supplies america would have had alot more trouble. But the real reason is, Britain was quite busy trying to stomp out the French to worry about taking back a troublesome colony across the Ocean. Let's be realistic, if The King said "i want that damn country NOW godamnit!" and actually threw most of there strength against the Americans that you guys wold have stood a chance? Not to mention they were also preoccupied with the French Catholics in Lower Canada. (the Brit to French ratio in canada was about 1-100) Then they helped in the drafting of your Constition, Jefferson and Benny spent alot of time in France working on democratic philsophies. The French were teh second nation to take up Democracy and have ever since been on greatterms with the american's, including the creation of lady liberty which wasa gift from the (more powerful) french
