Why you should beat your children
Alan, what you're describing is physical child abuse, which I in no way approve of. I'm talking a slap on the bum for young children - because I think older kids respond better to other types of punishment. There are people who think any kind of physical pain inflicted on children - no matter how it is administered and how the child responds - is BAD BAD BAD. It isn't necessarily any worse than other kinds of punishment, and works better for many kids in many situations. I'm not saying everyone should only discipline their kids by whacking them around, I'm saying a whack on the butt does not necessarily merit gasps of horror. Anything can be taken too far, and people who think that something (like emotional or psychological abuse) is okay just because it doesn't leave any physical mark are just as wrong as people who think it's okay to whack their children with a cutting board.
A 4 year old doesn't understand "Don't touch the oven or you will burn yourself" What a 4 year old does understand is a sore toosh. If they do something that is wrong repeatedly, a spank will tell them not to. Or slapping their hand when they touch something they aren't supposed to. This is something they DO understand. Allowing kids to do whatever the hell they want is more damaging than a spanking. I'm talking very young kids here. If you don't do your job at this age, then all hope is lost down the road anyways.

What's better, a kid who resents his/her parent's for spanking them...or even beating them...or a kid who goes out and does whatever?
IE today's news:
St. Louis police chased down and arrested three teens -- one of them a girl holding a 3-week-old baby -- who tried to rob a woman at gunpoint early this morning.
Authorities this morning were mulling charges against the suspects, two girls, 16 and 17, and a boy, 16
I was beaten with rolling pins. I have a scar on my forehead that's about 3 inches long from a butter knife being thrown at me. Rulers, spatulas, vacuum cleaner attachments were all means of discipline. I hated my parents for what they did to me. I love them now for what they ultimately gave to me. But never did I once think of harming others. Or taking a gun to school and killing people. Or robbing someone. Child abuse...intolerable. Discipline...necessary.
Seriously, look at the youth of today...they think they can do and get away with anything. What's the mentality? I'm a juvenile, I can get away with anything. My parents are not allowed to touch me...I'll sue...

Listen, I think that the title of this thread is really insensitive.....im sorry, but what if someone on this message board was beaten or something?
You are entitled to your own opinion, just as I am entitled to mine, and I think that any sort of violence toward a child is wrong, even if in discipline...

Guy: Her locker's down the hall, I've counted 17 from mine.
Girl: Does he see me? Does he even know that I'm close by?
Guy: We're in the hallway, always at half past nine.
Girl: Would he ever get to know me? Would he take the time?
[glow=brown]...Back in school they never taught us what we needed to know like how to deal with despair or someone breaking your heart...[/glow]

I was beat around as a kid babe, and stuff like this doesn't make me laugh. That is why I am upset about this thread.
That is all.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.
