2010 Winter Olympics

Post by nelison »

Alright so tomorrow is the big day for Vancouver as they are favoured to be chosen to host the 2010 winter olympics over Salzburg Austria, and Pyongchang South Korea.
I'm just wondering if you guys support this bid? or in general would you guys support an olympic bid by a local city or a city in your country?

I think this is excellent if Vancouver gets it. Seeing as they are ranked as the 2nd best place to live in the world it would be an amazing chance for them to show their stuff to the world. Not to mention Toronto was ripped off by the IOC when they voted in favour of Beijing for 2008, so it seems only fair that Canada gets the games again.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

i definitely think it's canada's turn for the games, but i'm kind of torn about whether or not i want them. now that we've gone through the whole bidding process, i want us to get them, cause it would be a big waste of money and time. of course i want my city to host the games, that would be awesome, but there's a lot to take into consideration.

they say we have good chances though. because the bidding for 2012 includes moscow, london, paris, new york city, and madrid. since most of the ioc is from europe, they'll want to pick one of the european cities for that year. so if they pick salzburg for 2010, that'll make 4/5 olympics in europe in a row (or something like that). plus, the states just had 2002 olympics, and we haven't had the games since 1988. but, if we lose the bid, toronto might bid for the 2012 games and could argue that it's definitely canada's turn since they skipped vancouver. plus, you know, vancouver's the best city out of those 3 :P

it's all pretty confusing though. there's so many politics involved. we'll have to see what they decide tomorrow!

Detroit will never get an Olympic Games, I can guarantee that.

Michigan isn't a piece of shit. Detroit, Flint, and Saginaw are, but not all of Michigan.

Anyways, I bet we would win it if we put a bid in for the Olympics, but we don't have the facilities for it. Like for the Summer Games, we have no tennis stadiums or large places for the track and field events, let alone cycling. And knowing Michigan, if we get the Winter Games, we'll have an inferno in January.

i just watched the vancouver olympic presentation, and it was highlighted by the possibility of the gold medal hockey game being played in front of 55000 people at b.c place, how cool would that be
