The singles section of any store is filled with pop music and usually has none of the songs I'm looking for. No way am I paying $3-5 for one song.

Exactly Sarah. With the singles, you find yourself paying $3-5 for the cd, and you get one song, maybe two or three if you're lucky. I found myself spending $10 on the One Man Army single with Clumsy, Starseed, and the OMA video on it. That is three songs and a video. That is almost as much as I paid for Happiness....

I don't see how you can say to buy the single in this case anyway. The only way you can start to defend record companies like this is if you don't have a single mp3 on your computer. When that happens, you can defend the RIAA.

That is why I don't feel bad for the music industry. Most music out there is just over-produced drivel, with an exception of a song or two per cd. Why would anyone want to spend $15 to hear the one song and find out that the rest of the cd sucks? You can't sell the cd back to the store, and you take a $15 hit to your wallet. I'd rather download the one song than buy a cd.

That is the exact reason I don't own a Powderfiger, Harvey Danger, or Local H cd. In most cases, the common person couldn't even name the song that they sang, but can tell you they love that song when they hear it. In cases like that, would you rather buy the 12 song cd from each of those bands, or would you rather download each song and put it on one cd?

WHO BUYS CD SINGLES? If I did (which I wouldn't) I would probably just copy it onto my computer so I could then burn it onto a mix CD that has more than just 1 or 2 (maybe even 3 if they're generous) songs on it. I don't know about you, but I would find it a great pain in the ass to stick a CD in just to listen to one song, for it to end, and then be like, 'Okay.... well, next CD!' It's just not cool. So basically CD singles are just a pain in my ASS.

the law supposedly went into effect even
cds are still not that expensive
it didnt do anything
why would things change?

From what I've read, they have YET to distribute any of that tax money to artists.

I've worked at FutureShop for a couple of years and no, there has been no levy. However, i've noticed a provincial levy (i live in alberta) of 3 cents on soda. So there you have it.
