The Ant & The Grasshopper. Clumsyboy read this.
and i've said this many a time, the majority of people are not rational. and when man is put in a desperate situation, man becomes disillusional and does things that he may think are rational but are self destructive to those around him and himself.
Whenever death may surprise us,
let it be welcome
if our battle cry has reached even one receptive ear
and another hand reaches out to take up our arms.
Nobody's gonna miss me, no tears will fall, no ones gonna weap, when i hit that road.
my boots are broken my brain is sore, fer keepin' up with thier little world, i got a heavy load.
gonna leave 'em all just like before, i'm big city bound, your always 17 in your hometown

I too am reading a book about Globalization and the author spoke of how rational thinking has actually lead to globalization because it considers the big picture, not just the individual.

they are human right? i mean you hear them being called aliens but they are human. is it wrong to use their irational actions as an example of man pushed into a desperate situation with very little rationed. cause that's what i was going for.

in cetain desperate situations, most men are and they act like they are using rational behavior. i'm not saying all of them, just most.

Last time i ever try to lighten the mood in here. First of all - I didn't make this up.
It's a joke that was forwarded to me in an email. I thought Clumsyboy would dig it being a Canadian and all and also (to my understanding) a little left-leaning.
However - if you are saying that this parable doesn't reflect canadian society, you're drunk. and i mean that in the nicest possible way.
As for social issues, you all know my quick and easy answer: social programs = theft from the rich.
theft = bad.
therefore, social programs = bad.
The problem I have with the story is that it implies that all poor people are lazy fucks who don't work and simply want to mooch off the rich. Some probably are. Not all. Generalizations like that are sickening.

Have you no sense of humor? It was supposed to be a humorous parable written by some nutcase Canadian, and Chris brings it to the board. Now you're trying to be the high and mighty and take offense to a joke. God, sorry it's not a banana dancing to the "peanut butter jelly time" song, but try to just take it as a joke and let it go.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Out of curiosity, is there anything you do around here besides pick fights?

Nope.
Try not taking everything too personally and I'd not say something like that. The parable was a joke. It was posted twice that it was a joke. You still pick at it and take offense to it. You're not poor. You're not on welfare. You're not even Canadian. Just read it and laugh. That's what jokes are made to do, make people laugh, not inspire people to say why it is "politically incorrect" or "insensitive" or whatever else you feel is wrong with it.

I don't find it funny when people make assholish statements even in jest. And I said so. How is that any of your business? Don't get all high and mighty and tell me how I should feel about things. If you thought it was funny, fine. But don't push your opinions on me. What do you care what I think, and what do I care what you think?
If anyone should lighten up here, it's you.
