mosaik wrote:ahem. the term "rational" is not a subjective term, up for definition according to your perspective. you can't say "what's rational to you may not be to me" because that right there is a freakin' contradiction, and we all know the logical rule that applies to contradictions:

there are no contradictions.

rational is an object term and philosophical idea mean to encompass a set of beliefs. it is not something that is open to debate.

if you're not up to sharing whatever justification you have for this irrational and emotional hate of your own species, fine. i don't even need to know what it is to tell you that it's irrational.

i don't care how many people have the same opinion as you, they're all irrational. note that i am respecting your opinion by not declaring it either right or wrong. i'm just saying that it's irrational, which is true, if you go by the conventional and accepted definition of the word.

i reccommend you observe the thread entitled "if this is what you want your future to be like" in the welcome to this world forum. you'd learn alot about what is and isn't rational.

you're just not a postmodernist thinker. that's all. i, for one, am. and is sounds like joey is. i would tell you to just accept that fact and accept the fact that the only absolute is that there are no absolutes, but that isn't in accordance with your school of thought and i doubt any of us here could change that.

so basically this is a futile argument, let's give it up.

emphasis mine.

i highlighted the line "i would tell you to just accept that fact and accept the fact that the only absolute is that there are no absolutes" because i would like to know if you actually believe that, and if so, if you are prepared to discuss it.

because i don't believe it and am very prepared to explain why.

Ugh .. we actually got to 5 pages of nice discussions and friendly chatting .. let's not ruin that with an arguement that isn't gonna solve anything or change anybody's way of thinking.

If you guys do feel the need to discuss this further, all I ask is that you continue it outside of this thread, just create another one .. I was actually liking this thread and it's only one on the cm I read :uh:

you know, joey, i'm actually not as close minded as you seem to think i am and this argument, if argued to my liking, could very well change or at least modify my way of thinking.

so if sandsleeper's up to it, i want to hear her position on object reality.

edited to reduce offensiveness.

further edited to include the following: i'd be happy to move the discussion.

edit: stop editing when I edit :P

edit for the last time: I never said you were close minded, we just have a difference of opinion that's all. Nothing wrong with that.

Every now and then I fall out into open air just to feel the wind, rain and everything.
And though the hum and sway gets me down
, I'll find the way to peace and openness.
