Mental Problems

Post by areusad831 »

Out of curiousity I was wondering how many people either know or think that they have a mental problem. In particular depression or anxiety attacks. I am just curious as to the concordance between people and mental problems.

sign me up for both, coach!

umm
yeah.

i wouldn't say mental problems...but psychological condition.

I dunno if any of the stuff i've gone though could be diagnosed as a psychological condition. I guess depression, maybe, because I was pretty fucking depressed for at least two weeks this year, but then i started feeling much, much better and I haven't felt that bad since then. I get depressed once in a while, but i can get out of it, before I couldn't get out of it, i would wake up sad and go to sleep sad. it was pretty bad. i don't know what got me out of it. pure magic, i guess.

as for anxiety. heh. i've had anxiety problems as long as i can remember. hmmm i bet i could be diagnosed with that but I don't get them every day or anything.

the cm breeds unstability

nah...not me. i mean right now i'm kind of feeling a little funny, and love struck and what not but really everyone goes through this kind of thing. i'm just tired of not being in a serious relationship, i'll get over it as soon as i download some really high pepped music. i got Jessica Andrews - more to me then you ballad version playing once every 5 songs. :freak: it's a purdy song.

apperently i have depression because i think every one at my school sucks and i would prefer NOT hanging out with them :freak:

my mom decided that i needed help, so she got me to a shrink and on some med-i-caaaation! it really sucked, actually, because she never asked me if i wanted it. :crying:

that was a while ago, and everythings good now. turns out all i really needed was a good ol dose of the cm :D which, by the way, my mom thinks is the devil

Anti-social personality disorder:

Diagnostic Criteria
There is a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others occurring since age 15 years, as indicated by three (or more) of the following:
failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest
deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure
impulsivity or failure to plan ahead
irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults
reckless disregard for safety of self or others
consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations
lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another
The individual is at least age 18 years.
There is evidence of Conduct Disorder with onset before age 15 years.
The occurrence of antisocial behavior is not exclusively during the course of Schizophrenia or a Manic Episode.

Well, no. Apparently I got the shit-hole abridged version of that in my Psych class.

Perhaps I have something else. Is there a disorder defined by the assurity that one has a disorder, without any evidence of one?

this is what you're probably thinking of:

avoidant personality disorder:
A pervasive pattern of social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, and hypersensitivity to negative evaluation, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by four (or more) of the following:

avoids occupational activities that involve significant interpersonal contact, because of fears of criticism, disapproval, or rejection
is unwilling to get involved with people unless certain of being liked
shows restraint within intimate relationships because of the fear of being shamed or ridiculed
is preoccupied with being criticized or rejected in social situations
is inhibited in new interpersonal situations because of feelings of inadequacy
views self as socially inept, personally unappealing, or inferior to others
is unusually reluctant to take personal risks or to engage in any new activities because they may prove embarrassing

i can't stand it when people say anti-social when they are talking about introversion. i have nothing against you, other rob, but it just irks me
