i hate that everyone's afraid to come to out stupid city because of SARS :( Now they are cancelling concerts because of it. Bright eyes cancelled their concert this monday because of SARS. I think people are over reacting. This is not fair

ya for a population as large as southern Ontario is, SARS is not that big of a deal. Sure it killed 20 people but I'm sure if we wanted to look up how many people die of the flu every year the number would be higher it's just a media hype. I would not be worried about SARS in Toronto, they've already announced that they have it controlled now as long as no cases from overseas get brought over which they're controlling as well.

isnt it like west nile too in that only old people and people with weak immune systems die of it for the most part?

ya, it looks like anyone can get it, but unless you have a weak immune system or you are elderly than you have a chance of dying, otherwise you'll just be sick for a week or so. Some researchers say that it is hitting the strongest age group (25-35) hard but in Toronto they've yet to have a death below the age of 43, and about 75% of them were in their elderly years.

If you take care of yourself and go to a hospital when you have the SARS symptoms, odds are, you'll be fine. The people that die are the ones that don't care of themselves. If they didn't die from SARS they would die from something like pneumonia or something of the sort.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

i've heard that the death rate of SARS is like...6%, and that's worldwide. I wouldn't be too worried.

Yeah it's definitely being taken a little too far .. my friend's sister is getting married in Mississauga the last week in May and at least half the guest list from out of town is cancelling because they don't want to go into the city because they're scared they'll get SARS

Too bad.

I just got back from the walk-in clinic to see about my bad knee and i had to fill out a disclaimer form saying i had not been in contact with anyone with sars, didn't have any symptoms, and hadn't been to any of a list of cities. Then I had to use antibacterial hand gel, and the doc had a mask around his neck. What the bleedin' hell?

Yeah I had to do that too .. I went to a clinic at the beginning of the month and before you even walk in there's a sign on the door saying if you've been overseas or in contact with anyone who might have SARS don't come in. Then when I went in I had to fill out a sheet asking if I had any headaches, or been overseas and all this stuff. Plus the clinic was right next door to a clinic where they do blood tests and there was someone seated outside the door asking people all this stuff before they even went in .. just being cautious I guess but damn.
