US tests massive bomb

Post by Neil »

http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/03/11/sprj.i ... index.html

Being dubed as the "Mother Of All Bombs".....this 21,000 lb bomb is the largest conventional weapon.

How do you all feel about it? The government was hoping the release of this sucker would cause Iraqi soldiers to simply surrender and not fight, making it more of a psychological weapon.

I was reading that if you're within a certain radius....if it doesn't kill you if will definitely mess you up. (i.e. instant deafness)

How do you guys feel about this thing?

I'm not sure on the exact......but if ya read this article, a chick from IHOP (that's right - International House Of Pancakes) was about 20 miles away and it didn't do squat. They dropped the sucker into the water though, seems it would of course be more devistating if they dropped it in downtown Baghdad...

Urban warfare that suckers....

It seems like its crazy.....but I dunno, we discussed it heavily in my International Relations class today and most classmates felt it is simply overrated and used as a psychological weapon.

yeah.....simply a scare tactic.....people seem to believe we don't wanna use this to actually harm. Even though the article clearly states they could use this against large concentrations of Iraqi soldiers, above and below ground bunkers...

I dunno.....I say, opening of the attack.....drop 4 of these suckers around Baghdad, then watch those "towel heads" run.

its clearly not a weapon of mass destruction.......but that's what they think will be the impression. We'll drop one and because its so large Iraq is gonna think its a nuclear reaction...

That's why its a conventional weapon.....it looks like any other bomb, just a lot more bang

we dont entirely know how much destructive force it has or if this is truly the ACTUAL final product which tend to be changed for more destructive purposes heh

hitting water and hitting land are totally different for one thing.. for another.. who's to say this test was actually a success?
Pentagon officials said they were examining results of the test to determine whether it worked as designed

reading that.. im gonna assume theyre gonna make changes.. when you pack that much explosives.. you expect a bigger bang for you buck.. psychological or not... if the bomb does no damage.. you think the Iraqi's are gonna come crying to mommy?

heres a simple situation for you.. just for the sake of opinion..

you have 2 groups of whatever that are hostile to each other..

group a. give em guns, ships, choppers, tanks, and whatever fuckin else ya want.. make it there in the USA.. give em top of the line everything.

group b. give em nothing .. chastise them for attempting to arm themselves.. take over their land and stay there..

how does group b fight back?
how do you give them the chance to hold their own?
how do you consciously accept what happens? do you turn a blind eye? do you pretend nothing is happening and all is well? do you just ignore the fact that group b has very little money and therefore isnt worth fighting for?

Group B might appear to have no money, but that could possibly be because group B is under the control of a complete tool for a dictator that would rather corrupt the "Oil For Food Program" of BILLIONS of dollars...

For what?

To support his 20 freakin estates................perhaps if group b was smart, they would side with a certain oppositon group (we'll call group c) and overthrow this tool for a dictator.

Then group a can be happy..

FIN!

why do you think there is so much animosity towards the americans in the middle east? and what has Osama Bin laden so deluded to think paying for training and for all the expenses and all that went with pulling of all of the terrorist actions he's done against the states are actually good and worthwhile?

That is not completely true. There are several individuals in those territories that are thankful for what the US is doing for them. Generally the ones that have no rights or power are the ones that support us. The ones that have too much power are upset we are taking it away from them.

right on.....I'm sure there are quite a few Arabs that would like to see Saddam out of there. That's the reason why Iraq has the highest rate for infant deaths in the world, because of Saddam the whole country is repressed.
Perhaps that's why those several countries in the Arab League of Nations proposed that Saddam steps down and goes into exile.

The man LITERALLY laughs at the U.S. and the U.N. for the sanctions we have put upon. They don't hurt him (to most of the extent), they hurt his people.

then instead of killing him and his people.. why not educate them and empower THEM to take him out of power and not kill innocent people?
