this bylaw wasn't motivated by public interest or public demand as i have illustrated. it was motivated by the greedy fucking government trying to get it's greedy fucking fingers just a little bit further into our fucking pockets.
How can you determine that the government is trying to get further into our pockets? I'm sorry, but you had the CHOICE to start smoking to begin with. The members of the general public who chose otherwise should not be subjected to inhaling the same crap that you're breathing into your lungs. By the way, it's not infringing on your rights as a member of society. You're still allowed to enter a bar, you're just not allowed to smoke while in the bar. Would you be able to enter a bar wielding a weapon? No. Would you be able to enter a bar naked? No. Face it, as a smoker in the 21st century, you're a minority.
Oh, and what annoys me.. lol.. Working your ass off to finish something for a deadline and then everyone else handing it in late.. and not getting penalized for it. Ahh, Ontario's education system

because they are.

haha, yes i know. where in my post did i claim otherwise?

did you read my post? i don't mean to ask that to be sarcastic, but really, did you? considering that i stated previously that you do not have the RIGHT to go to the bar, wouldn't i then be aware of all of the things you've just stated? and what's more, wouldn't it be safe to assume that i agree with your points?
my argument is that no-smoking bylaws violate the PROPERTY RIGHTS of the OWNERS of the buildings (mostly bars and restaraunts) that are affected by smoking. you didn't address that AT ALL in your mostly true but totally irrelevant post.
and as far as what annoys me... well i'm going to the bar tonight and you can sure as fuck bet that i'll be annoyed when i get there and i can't smoke.

I am so annoyed with the fact that everyone in my family has been sick or some state similar to for the past week, and they have taken it upon themselves to boss me around in order for me to take care of them. I have never met a moodier, bossier and consistantly mean bunch of people who are supposed to be 'resting' in my life. You know what? Don't pick a fight with me over something you asked me to do. And no, don't thank me because I wasn't expecting you to awknowledge me in the first place.
Take all your requests and shove them up your ass, because if you can stand over me and watch me do it after you forced me to in the first place, you can sure as hell do it yourself. Just because you are bossy and manipulative and everyone else around you seems to accept that, doesn't mean I will. Sorry princess, but piss off.

NOBODY WILL GO to a non smoking bar unless forced to do so.
I'm too tired to debate you on your points, but I have to disagree with this. We went to a bar in Toronto. It was non-smoking. It was packed. I LOVED it. I could breathe, my throat didn't hurt me from the irritants in the smoke, I didn't smell like crap afterwards.
If I had a choice here between a smoking bar and a non-smoking one, I'd choose the non-smoking one any day and I know I'm not the only one.

yeah me too Sooz. My lungs and throat hurt for days after going to bars before the smoking bans. I was even burned twice by people dancing with cigarettes at bars.
When the smoking bans went into effect, smokers swore they would not go out to restaurants and bars and everyone was worried that many places would close from a lack of business. Not the case... business is booming and non-smokers are extremely thankful. None of the smokers I know care that they have to smoke outside or in an enclosure... the anger they felt originally has passed. They are decent people who understand their right to smoke should not impinge on my right not to be exposed to it.
My great-grandmother died from lung cancer from second hand smoke...she worked years in smokey restaurants and spent years in agony. It was an awful thing to watch her die. It's sad that some people have to suffer even if they aren't the ones who ever smoked. This also goes for all the restaurant owners and workers I've ever known and met... once they realized their business was not suffering, they were happier than the non-smoking patrons. We actually did a project on this in university and went door to door at restaurants in 3 cities in Ontario.
In addition, we have public health care and anything that might reduce the huge cost of smoking-related illnesses is welcomed IMHO.

that's all well and good kathy but once again does not have anything to do with my argument that smoking bans are a violaiton of property rights, which they ARE.

THAT is annoying

Broadcast, telecommunications, mass media (lovingly called "BTMM" at my school) teachers who claim that their main focus is audio/music and then claim that CD singles are made as promotional copies for radio stations but haven't actually been sold in stores or online since the mid/late 90s.
That was a long sentence...if it doesn't make sense, read it again

And Troy - BTMM sounds too much like bottom. And if your teachers don't reckon CD singles haven't been sold in stores since the 90s you can invite them to come to my local HMV where there are very many CD singles for people to purchase.
