Deffinatly don't chicken out! You HAVE to call him. Everything will turn out fine. It's not really as though you have a choice, trust me when I say this, YOU WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOURSELF IF YOU DON'T! You're going to regret it if you don't, and you need to do this for yourself! CALL HIM! Nothing terrible is going to happen, and who knows what could happen, but I sure would rather find out than never know and regret it for the rest of my life (okay, maybe not life). You get what I mean. Just call him, it's not like you have to say a whole lot if you really feel uncomfortable. I guarantee that he'll be happy to receive your call.

I'm usually abnormally stubborn when it comes to girls. They either make the first move, or nothing happens. It usually works out to my advantage, but sometimes it doesn't and I realize that I'm being completely stupid. Although it may be hard, and our circumstances are different (I'm usually fighting with them or something, you arent in this case), my advice is to give it a shot. You'd just regret it otherwise and chances are, it'll work out awesomely.
