I'm looking for bands / singers that have that wonderful Jeff Buckley sound just so I can listen to them. His style hard to imitate and the only of I've come close to is Ryan Adams.... I need some serious help. Any suggestions would be nice. hehe... and I'm going to Toronto on the 7th ... yay!

Sound of Buckley can't be recreated. No one could even compare.

Sad but true.

In terms of timbre, the lead singer from Ours sounds a lot like him but has nowhere near the musical genious nor the vocal versitality.

Well, I'll give a couple recommendations, but they don't really sound like Jeff Buckley. They just fall under the same singer/songwriter category.

Bonnie "Prince" Billy
Sufjan Stevens
Neutral Milk Hotel
Cat Power

They all have the same general sound of Buckley's, but they don't sound like him. No one will sound like him. Ever.

I have 2 truly amazing bands for you to check out (with song recommendations in brackets) that have semi-similar sounding vocals/style...

Well, Pilate always reminded me of Jeff Buckley. I wouldn't say the lead singer sounds like him, but it's always reminded me of Buckley.

Listen to a band called Quitter. They remind me of Jeff Buckley.

Guys I totally understand Jeff cant be re-created, and it's a shame that he isn't around any more, but I know there has to be bands that are in the same genre and play the same type of music. Thanks for the suggestions.

Just based on Vocals, I would also say Ours.

I wouldn't know how to classify him. He was an outstanding mix of rock/alternative/blues, etc. Really hard to place him in one genre.

That's why you just say he was a part of the singer/songwriter craft. And no, not everyone is along those lines.

Again, my recommendations would probably stand up quite nicely. Sufjan Stevens has lots of ambient noises, Neutral Milk Hotel has horns, saws, and organs making their songs into complete productions, and Bonnie "Prince" Billy is just quiet folk-like music. They're all different sounds, but they're all like Jeff Buckley, not to mention those four artists are among the best of all time.

Just check it out. You'll fall in love.

That's awesome someone else on this board knows about the great band that is Quitter, but I don't think they sound like Jeff Buckley at all. I think Quitter is like U2 meets Failure, both of which Buckley wasn't anything close to musically.

I don't know, I'm not intimately familiar with Jeff Buckley (only listened to a CD once or twice), but the "ethereal" vocals remind me of him.

Pete Yorn may not sound too much like Jeff Buckely but hes an awesome singer/ songwriter. He also has a great song about that he wrote the day Jeff Buckley died, its called "Bandstand in the Sky" and its an awesome song.
