Give er a read. And give your opinion.
In my opinion, defensive mechanisms fuel war. They present the incentive to develop new and better weapons. Peace does not come through war. And war has no place in space (unless it's against an evil alien race we don't know yet).

yeah we should try and keep our corruption limited to our own planet.

fucking A man, how about we just not go into space. if shit like this is gonna happen, i don't see a point in being up there at all.

we should make a law, no guns above 100,000 feet altitude.

Exactly! Earth is already a screwed up place because of wars, crime, etc. If they're going to try and do something with the Moon/Mars then make it a peaceful place, not a military base.
I had a feeling that when this was announced there was an alternative reason.

We have way too many issues on Earth. Stop avoiding them. Take care of Earth before you venture into the stars.

I don't want to sound like a dummy but, whats the point of setting up a military base on the moon?

Well Bushy Boy feels that from a base on the Moon it would be possible to shoot down enemy satellites that are orbiting Earth. It's just another of his "I've watched too many Star Wars films" ideas.

He'll call it the "Death Star"
He might even set up a "Laser" on the "Death Star"

Seriously though, the moon is a good place from which to send bombs and whatnot. I mean, it would kind of screw up any radar systems if the only thing showing up on the radar appears to start right above the target.
Remember when the moon used to be a source of romantic thought for people around the world? Yeah, now it's going to be a source of fear for 75% of the world's population.
Oh, and I'd like to know how it is that Bush thinks he can own part of the moon. What a fucking jackass. Either in the name of the Earth or not at all.

I'm personally excited about the renewed interest in space exploration/potential colinization. I think that if a moon base actually comes to fruition, it'll function far more as a scientific post, as opposed to a military post; though, there will likely be a military presence there.

Don't mind if I do!
But I think space exploration on the whole is really not all that nessicary. How many freaking billions of dollars have gone into space programs? Sure, it's nice and cool to think wheeeee we landed on the moon. But does it really do our world as a whole any good? Not really...
That money could be way better spent on other programs that will actually benifit people. Once we fix all the problems here on earth, then we can worry about space.

The only reason for the space program is for research and development for the military.

that's only partly true; it's also for scientific benefit, and just cuz we can't stop asking "hmm, I wonder what the hell's out there?"

I watched the Tom Green show one time.
I don't usually watch it cause its pretty stupid.
They had a guest worked for a company that sold pieces of the moon.
At first there were questions like "But arn't their other companies that do the exact same thing?" or "whats the point?" and the guy had all these corporate answers for him.
Eventually Tom Green starting yelling "YOU CAN'T SELL THE MOON!!!"
I think Tom Green makes a lot of sense.

Didn't the US government make selling moon rocks illegal? (because obviously only the US can own the moon)
