Ok THAT is ridiculous. You can't just remove a word entirely from the language because it can negative connotations, especially if the connotation can also be neutral! Fucking idiots.

it really erks me when everyone tries to be so politically correct all the time.
I mean, if you are going to be offended by a computer term then all I have to say is Get over yourself!

I'm not surprised. Crap like this comes out everyday. Between the NAACP, and the ACLU we're gonna have to watch everything we say and do. People won't be allowed to celebrate Christmas soon.

I say we petition to have crackers renamed crunchy-wheat-based-food-wafers.

Because, y'know, that'd be the sensitive, enlightened thing to do.

I sent this to KurzweilAI.net in the hopes that it will make one of their daily news e-mails. I mean, hey... If these unarguably primative machines are being given this "right", imagine how fast people will be to give rights to machines once they can actually fight for rights themselves...

Yay! I got an e-mail from a KurzweilAI.net editor saying that I had an "Interesting point"

So, long story short, sign up for the Kurzweil newsletter ASAP as this story is likely to be in it. Not that I'll be mentioned or anything, but it is pretty cool to be involved.

Well, that's just dumb...
How may people actually read what their computer outputs while it's booting up or the labels for the jumpers on the back of your drive.

Almost nobody, really.

people who are trying to stir up shit that are angry at the world, and probably should be considering psychiatric help concerning their obvious problems

I think you may have slightly missed the point of the article. It isn't saying that harddrives shouldn't be labeled demeaning names. It is more of a precaution that people who read these labels may be offended. The whole harddrives have rights thing was just a joke. Congratulations anyways.
