I hope every American today at least thought of all the Veterans that sacrificed themselves for not only our country, but in many cases for the world. If you know a veteran, take the next step and personally thank them for what they did. Without them we could be living under the Nazi's or the Stalinist's.

No one in my family has been personally touched by WW2...except my Great-Grandfather died in WW1, and I know how hard that was for my grandpa to lose someone. I've been watching movies about WW2 related stuff this week like Saving Private Ryan and Schleifflan Plan (spelling?).....and it has really made me reflect on all the men who lost their lives in honor of our country and our world. I can't think of a more noble thing.

Both my grandparents served. One in WWII (he was a bomber pilot) and the other in the Korean. Dude...I never thought of actually calling him and thanking him. How pathetic is that? I guess I should do that.

My Uncle and my Grandfather both served. They both died when i was pretty young though. So i never got to know them

I guess I should say both grandfathers.

Thanks to all the Canadians and Americans that gave or risked their lives to free our country (and others) from the nazis. Maybe in a couple of years the people from Iraq will be saying something in the same line. Let's hope so.

My grandpa peeled potatoes and was a cook during WW2........I still thanked him just for going.

Is it just me......or this year with all the activity we've heard about Veterans Day a lot more than usual?

Its just you. There have always been parades, memorials, etc. I think its because of whats going on that you noticed this year.

That's not true....I've always known that there is acknowlegement of the holiday, but I am fully aware that its much more talked about in the media, etc this year more than passed years.

I didn't hear one word about veteran's day this year myself.

My grandfather served in WWII. He drove a fuel truck through mine fields and made it back alive. He had so many stories that were always fascinating. He died 6 years ago of cancer but I still thank him for his efforts in my prayers.
