there is a legitimate aspect to that site actually and kinda interesting now that i think about it more.. theres a poll on the right asking "what would you do if you were unable to produce milk for your newborn yourself?" and considering theres plenty of folks who dont believe in giving their kids "manmade" stuff and only "natural" milk and given that breast milk is better than regular milk for the lil ones.. its interesting to see what people would do.. they would basically have to do something along these lines

actually for a newborn infant it's better to give them the milk of their own mother rather than someone else's because it has the specific antibodies the baby needs to fight certain diseases that the mother herself is immune to.

very true.. but thats what makes mothers milk so much more important to the infant then the milk of other animals... in reference to other animals

...i know

wait, what?

you're not supposed to give animal's milk to a human infant until they're like, 2 anyway. it doesn't have all the nutrients the kid needs to develop.

when did we start talking about other animals? :Johnathan:

if the milk isnt "manmade" then where else would you get it from if you werent able to produce breast milk yourself?

well my first thought (and im sure its the same for most people) would be animals milk.. that was my line of thinking with my original post and therefore they would pretty much have no choice but to buy or acquire in some way breast milk from someone else

actually, i think if you don't have the choice to giving breast milk, giving the kid manmade stuff is a much better decision, and a lot healthier, than animal's milk. manmade stuff might not have all the nutrients necessary for optimal development but it's a lot better than giving animal milk during infancy.

Edit: i suppose other human's milk could work too, but only if the infant was used to the milk. that's how nursing by someone other than the mother works.

Edit (again): i do understand what you're saying. i just don't agree with putting your child's development at risk because of your own beliefs. *shrugs*

Its been done in many other cultures. Its a legitamite way of trying to insure your baby gets the best nutrition possible. We talked about this in science, another human's milk is better than no breast milk at all. Think about wet nurses...

I also heard a story about a woman who had pumped her own milk for her baby, that she was taking on a plane. She had the bottle of milk with her, and because there's a rule that you have to take a sip of all already opened beverages to insure that they're not poison, they tried to make her drink her own milk. Thats just wrong...

wow, that's not cool.

sand and i concluded this ourselves by agreeing that mother's milk > other human breast milk > baby formula > animal milk

Am I the only person who doesn't think there was anything wrong at all with this woman trying to sell her breast milk? Like she said herself, she was just trying to help. *shrugs*
