I didn't think this was fully operational yet. Anyone heard differently? I know that the tests so far were only about 65% successful. Either we are deploying these without an excellent success rate or they have been improved dramatically in the past year since the last publically announced test. Of course all that being said it doesn't give a time frame for when this is hoped to be put in place.

just a question, i alwasy wondered, how does missile defence protect a country? when it intercepeted a dangerous missle would teh contents still rain down on whatever it was above?
PS i'm not trying to start a fight or use my anti-war ideals, i'm actually wondering

good question. i saw somewhere that old ass patriots used to only knock incomming missiles off course. and now there are a new generation that completely destroy the misile.

Yes they radioactive material would rain down wherever it is intercepted, however the defense system is designed so that it intercepts the missles before the reenter the earths atmosphere. Therefore it is thought that the material would stay in space.

another question that is just a question and not looking to get in an argument . . . which countries that we know of have the type of weapons that such a missile defence mechanism could defend against.

North Korea would be the one I'd worry about.
