Well, I noticed no one had brought this up yet so I thought I would. I was pretty disgusted about how PETA reacted to the event: http://www.peta.org/news/NewsItem.asp?id=2997

Personally I feel very strongly about treating animals with respect and care, but it just seems so callous that they would use this tragedy to further their agenda.

Thoughts?

Hmm I think it was unfortunate that the tiger attacked him, but tigers are wild animals and even if they have been trained since they were born the still have the insticts of a wild animal. I feel bad for the tigers. I bet it wants to roam free in the jungle!

...He hit the tiger on the head with the microphone! No wonder it dragged him around by his neck..

I totally agree. I hate how animals are caged for our viewing pleasure. I don't agree with how they use the tigers. I just thought PETA could have reacted a bit more humanely, I mean, the guy's fighting for his life in the hospital and they practically taunt him with a fax saying 'we told you so'.

The way I heard it was that hitting the tiger with the microphone was an accident.

PETA has a point.
I want to know what is happening to the tiger right now...

I do think that by breeding their own animals they are doing something good because of their low population but that really doesnt justify it.

Well, they're not killing the tiger, considering it's among the endangered species.

I hate PETA. I wish someone would stick THEM in cages.

No matter how much you say that you love the wild animals whom you have confined continents away from their natural homes, you are still the men who have subjugated their wills and natures to further your own careers.

Funny... and what is the point of this letter? Certainly not using animals to further your careers...

peta is just stupid, these are the same people who want the packers to change their name to something else.

I don't agree with everything PETA stands for but I do agree that animals such as tiger, lions, bears, etc should NOT be subjected to these "shows". They are among the most dangerous animals in the world and no amount of training can totally tame their natural instincts. In regards to the microphone thing, they did hit the tigers with the microphones to "try" and get them to cooperate. I knew it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. Its too bad it had to be this serious, but hopefully it will be a wake up call to others that this is not the way these animals should be treated. I agree with PETA saying they should set up a sanctuary for tigers. They are among the most endangered animals in the world and everything should be done to increase their population. Taking animals out of their natural habitats and making them do things they were never meant to do is wrong and things like this are gonna continue to happen until people respect these animals for what they are.

PETA is sensationalist. they'll try something like this whenever possible just because they want another fifteen minutes of fame for their misguided organization.

I don't know. I just saw these tigers as very large pets. I mean, dogs aren't exactly in their "natural habitat" when you have one of those as a pet. Sigfreid and Roy raised these tigers since they were cubs and I guarantee they were treated much better than they would have in any sort of sanctuary.

I agree PETA will do anything to get attention but some of the things are valid. They could have been more sympathetic this time but the criticizim is warrented. Tigers are hardly comparable to dogs Corey. How many 400-500 pound dogs do you know with 2-3 inch teeth and claws? Dogs have been pets for hundreds of years. Tigers have not. Tigers are also one of the great 10 hunters.....dogs are not. Another fact of the matter is that dogs bite too.....but they can't produce the damage that a tiger can. The tiger may have just been being playful....it obviously didn't look like a vicious attack because many people in the audience thought it was part of the show. I'm not standing up for PETA as an organization, but I think they have a point in this case.

I want to say that if some animal attacking a human seems like its part of a show then there is something seriously wrong with that show.

he hit the tiger with the mic so it would let go of his arm, not so it would perform a trick. it had already bitten him before he struck it.

Honestly, I can't say I'm surprised that Roy got attacked. Also, I don't really feel sorry for him. Both of them have been asking for it for years now.

that's exactly right. I obviously stand up for animal rights (as a vegitarian), but PETA is trying to enact such drastic and sudden changes that people don't take them seriously.
