What use is it to be wise, when wisdom profits nothing?

Do you believe in fate? If someone offered to tell you how and when you were going to die, and there was no way to change it, would you want to know? What if someone told you this information anyway - would you change the way you live your life?

Wouldn't it be part of fate if you found out your fate? And then whatever you did would be fate anyway. Anyone understand?

Dude. Then I guess we're all screwed...

I wouldn't want to know because then I would die of a heart attack or panic attack or something right before I would inevitably die, because I knew I would not be able to change it. Or I would die trying to change it.

It's just the from Donnie Darko, once your fate is manifested to you, that means you are offered a choice to go with it or not. That's why our fate will not be manifested.

I do believe in fate, because I believe all the events in the world is calculatable (is that a word), only the variables that composes fate is infinate or at least beyond our ability to calculate, which is what chaos theory is about. I also believe in free will, and free will is merely one of the variables in fate. For example, you can understand a person entirely by studying his genes, psychological patterns and what not, then you can predict what this person would do in certain situations. This is fate, and even though you tell that person what's going to happen next, maybe what you predicted will no longer occur, yet this person's reaction, thus his fate, is still predictable by you.

See what I mean?

[Edit]As for the topic question, true, what does it mean to be wise when wisdom profits nothing. However man hasn't figured out what wisdom is yet.

If someone told me they knew my fate... or something like that... i would definitely wanna try and not think about what they said....

I think that would be a major waste of the short time we all have on this planet if we lived in fear of something someone said that was going to happen to us that may not even come true.

If fate is real, then... i'd like to keep mine a surprise...

makes life more exciting :D
