Does nobody find these statistics alarming? Why would racism against Jews increase 60% over this past year? I was opening it up for discussion but instead I get insulted.

It wasn't meant as an insult, at least on my part. I just found the thread topic amusing.

Yes, those statistics are alarming. Unfortunately, there isn't much to discuss. Racists are ignorant, and it will never stop.

it is alarming but it's only some 400+ cases... like the article says, it is 400+ han there should be but I don't think you can trust that article.

I bet the reason for the increase was due to more people actually reporting the incidents, in the past their may have been just as many incidents if not more, only they weren't reported.

The study, which looked at incidents reported to B'nai Brith's regional offices and to its anti-hate hotline, is usually released annually, but the group last released an interim report in July 2002 because it had noted a jump in incidents.

Regional offices and ANti-hate outline??? come on now, I've never even heard of this before. Odds are if someone who is involved in the community doesn't even know it exists than neither does the average citizen.

yes we do... most of the asian population though is on the west coast, while the muslims are in the Toronto area.


I just don't believe that this study is very legitamit. if they had gotten police documentation about these crimes than I would think it would be more reliable but the fast that it's an outside source that for the most part is unknown, I wouldn't trust it.
It's kinda like when that religious group claimed they cloned the babies.

Toronto is also has 1/6 of Canada's population. 400 might be miniscule compared to other places. I'd like to see what the totals are for studies down in New York, Los Angeles, Chicado, and internationally as well sych as London, Paris, Sydney, Madrid etc...

The organization said most of the incidents it recorded in 2002 took place in Ontario, where there were 329 incidents reported, 217 of which took place in the Greater Toronto Area.

so that means there were only 459 reported cases of racism in Canada against the jewish population. That is NOT high at all. According to Stats Canada 1.2% of the population is Jewish... therefore 360,000 jews live in Canada, and of those only 0.12% experienced any harrassment. That's not exactly an alarming problem from my point of view as I'm sure other countries are experiencing higher per capita reported incidents of racism than Canada is.
