Man am I a sweet talker.
On my most recent excursion to Toronto I got a parking ticket at my hotel.
I asked the attendant when I first got there if I could jsut pay for 3 days. No 24 Hour max. So I followed this procedure untill the last night when there were not attendants on duty.
Sweet Free Parking!
I get back to my car later the next day to find a parking ticket.
I call up the number and they tell me I was supposed to pay at the automated attendent and explained politely to him that:
A. I never saw an automated machine because I always paid the attendant at the booth.
B. What sense does it make to have both a lot attendent AND an automated machine?
C. I'm just a bewildered tourist. Where I'm from you either have an attendant or it's free parking.
So after 10 minuted on hold the person on the phone cut the ticket from $40 to $15.
SWEET $5 off my last day of parking!!
Yes I realize I am taking away from Torontos tax base but I figure it's all good since I didn't bother to reclaim the nickel and dime GST/PST taxes at the border.

Pay to Park alone is one of the biggest gips in any city.
Perhaps maybe just surfcae lots. I can understand it takes money to build a large 10 story parking deck.
But $20 a night to park my car at my hotel where I'm already forking out $120 a night for their shoebox of a room?
Eff that.
While I'm bitching $1.75 for a local call lasting no more than 6 rings and an answering machine is complete BS.

you need better hotel finding skills, methinks.

This is a possibility now that I know how to take the subway and where the stops are.
I really like how the stations were clearly marked outside and you could understand the driver when they announced the stops.
When I took the subway with Nikka in Philla all I herd was a muffled voice not unlike Charlie Browns school teacher. *Wa Wah Wah Wahhh Wahh*

no offense intended but this thread (well the part about subways at least) makes that story about the dogs in moscow riding the subway to get around even more impressive
although im still not entirely sure if its a hoax or not

Well... technically yeah... because it's not automated, the drivers say each stop over the loudspeakers themselves.
PATCO trains haven't been updated since the 1960s.

We never have to pay for parking in our village. *Fist pump.* Hurray for small places that don't make the map!

How much is real estate around there?
I'll have to buy your parking lots so I can put up a booth and charge money for people to park.

see, when you said "that's PATCO" i thought you were referring to the voice, not the train system itself
although i do enjoy non-automated systems - drivers can say some funny things. i remember this one time on a GO train, the driver said "Mimico this stop. if you're getting off here, i'm sorry." i thought that was hilarious, but i was also 10 at the time.

Does your car have non-Ontario plates? If so, then they won't pursue you once you leave. They were talking about that on the radio a few days ago.

Ohio plates.
Wasn't concerned about the tracking me down really. But for future purposes no need to have a strike on myself in the system.

Then where do you park your cars?
... You do have cars right?
I mean it's not like you ride your Moose to Canadian Tire.
