I've never liked the idea of watermarks in audio files. I'm sure they would be noticeable if they'll be preserved when played over speakers and rerecorded...

Won't some computer saavy music geeks be able to counter water marking somehow? I always tend to believe that when record companies come out with one thing, there'll be something to counter it.

i think it all depends on how its done and whats done
a non-obtrusive ad that pops up somewhere in the software you're using but that makes the mp3 legally available to download/share is fine imo and in that case it wouldnt necessarily have to be re-recorded or what have you
but at the same time i highly doubt the RIAA would embrace technology that allowed the common citizen the freedom to do what theyre going to do anyways so tis a moot point in the long run haha


and doc.. chances are someone will figure things out but it'll take time to do so
