Americans don't criticize the government? I don't want to go any further down that road, but I may have to sue you.

Or is there a difference between criticizing and vehemently disagreeing with everything the government does?

I have to believe that this is just another "scare-tactic". Yes they probably received some great threat but the reason Bush gave for raising the alert was because it was an Islamic Holy Month. WOW. Heaven forbid someone celebrates a different holiday than the USA.
Saddam must have been on extremely high alert over our christmas, cause it was probably pretty obvious to him that the Americans would attack during this time.
I recommend you see Bowling For Columbine. It's the greatest example I've ever seen of how the government and media has struck fear into the American public.
Look at whats going on just in the last week. Duct Tape sales are going through the roof because Americans are trying to seel their windows in case of an attack. They are only buying this Duct tape because they were told that it was a large part of a terrorism survival kit.
If that's not scaring the public then I don't know what is.

That they are. Stupid alerts, just trying to scare people into compliance ..... they will just take a little bit of our freedom away, to help keep us "safe", and then a little more, and then .......

Actually, North Korea (isn't that the communist one?) reminded me of 1984, with the speakers in their houses blasting propaganda 24/7.

oh how I wish Eric Arthur Blair was still around to see this. He would have had a field day writing about the American government

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. "

-Benjamin Franklin

One of your own founding fathers. Wouldn't he be ashamed.
