Another thought about the SOTU address... are the applause breaks needed?? It was so stupid watching people give standing ovations after every sentence, sit back down, and do it again. It's a speech, and they made it seem like a sporting event. The fact that there is commentating doesn't make it seem any less "for entertainment purposes only." They should just let him talk.

It's some sort of traditional thingie. If you notice it was mostly Republicans who participated in the standing ovation stuff. It's some sort of propaganda scheme.

Here's Bush's problem: he's thinking WAY too short term...

This war is for oil. I don't care about nukes, everyone has them. This is about fuels.

Bush is putting a lot of money, and probably a lot of lives to get some fuel.

Why not put that money towards converting North Amercia to some sort of renewable resource? That would be a long term solution to a huge problem (both pollution and fuel shortages). Sure, it would take more money, and more time, but it's a lot more sensible than war, and would be long term.

Why do you think this is about oil??? This is NOT about oil. We get plenty of oil from Saudi Arabia, Venezula, and our our country. Only people who have no idea what they are talking about use the oil excuse. This is about a madman that controls a country in a vert delicate region of the world. This is about that madman's hatred for Western culture and the US in general. He has the same views as terrorists and wouldn't think twice about selling weapons to them. He already donates millions of dollars to the families of suicide bombers that wreek havok on the US and Isreal. If this was about oil and we in fact took over the oil in Iraq there would be a ton of countries that wouldn't stand for it and wouldn't react favorably towards the US. It may even lead to a large scale (world) war. I HIGHLY doubt the Us government wants that. I can;t believe people actually feel comfortable allowing Saddam to have these weapons. It shows an uneducated mind to allow him to remain in power. Some of you have raised the argument that many countries have these weapons.....yes they do, but they don't have the track record that Saddam does and wouldn't use them or sell them to terrorists.

Can't anyone seriously debate against going to war? You all seem to be so against it but have no good arguements. Yes people are going to die, but in the end 100 times that many lives will be saved and an oppressed people will know freedom. Saddam has had his chances people. 12 years and he has not complied with the UN. I think we have given him more than enough time. He's kicked out instectors, targeted US and British aircraft in the no-fly zones and even used chemical and biological weapons against his own people. Someone has to stop him. No one wanted to stop Hitler either. It took him trying to conquer the world for anyone to do anything and look at how many innocent people died. Does everyone here want history to repeat itself or should we do something about it before something tragic like 9/11 happens again......or god forbid worse? Any American that doesn't support their country in this is not a patriot. There can't be peace in the world when people like Saddam are in power. Sometimes war is necessary. Thats life. Get used to it.

OK, 9/11 wasn't staged. I don't think Bush is that sadistic.

Venom, I don't know who you are. I don't care to know who you are. But the way you're talking, I think you should get off the computer, drive to your ROTC office, and join the army. Please, you seem to be some freedom fighter, so go ahead and send yourself to an early grave fighting for a horrible president. Me, I will stay home hating Bush, and I will be breathing. Remember, don't support war unless you're willing to take a bullet for no reason.

9/11 was a one time thing. I can tell you that no terrorist action will happen again for an extremely long time. Calm down people, it's over. We have a maniac in office, and it needs to stop.

If we have a maniac in office, why are we supposed to calm down? I'm sitting on the edge of my seat just thinking about it! ...No, I'm really not.

You have nothing to worry about. You'd never be sent to Iraq. He is psychotic, but he's not murdering us yet. When he starts, then you can worry.

Good Morning.....wake up and smell the coffee.....stuff like 9/11 will happen again. It has happened on a smaller scale many times. Kenya, and Tanzania embassies, USS Cole, Anthrax attacks, EVERYDAY IN ISRAEL, (shall I go on?) Its people like you that are gonna allow the next attack and when it comes (I'll take ur stance) maybe you'll be lucky enough to be right there for it. We are a free people and therefore open ourselves up to terror. Richard Reid almost pulled off an air disaster only a couple months after 9/11. If he wasn't so stupid he woulda pulled it off. The fact of the matter is like I said, it will happen again. As long as we support Israel we are prime target. I assume the people I am arguing with don't remember the first Gulf War or weren't old enough to understand. Saddam should have been gone then, but Bush Sr. didn't play the card and so we're where we are today. That OBVIOUSLY wasn't about oil and neither is this. If we wanted Iraq's oil we would have taken it then and saved ourselves the trouble of going back. The fact that you young naive kids need to understand is that its not about oil. Stop watching the Liberal CNN and listening to the VERY small group of hippie wanna-be protesters and wake up. If we don't do something now we will all regret it. And please give reasons for not backing the removal of Saddam other than just saying "He's evil", and "He's a maniac". Give proof or examples of why you think going there is wrong and why you don't think terrorists can strike again or why you don't think Saddam will sell his weapons to terrorists. Lets have a educated discussion not me arguing and you spitting back little one liners you hear from CNN anchors and hippies.

Actually I think the more appropriate thing would be for you to take your un-patriotic ass to Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, North Korea, or whatever other country you think you would be better off in. If you don't like it here leave. Very simple.

I would leave, in fact, I'm getting the hell out of here when I finish my studies.

Just because somebody has a differing opinion about something like war doesn't mean that they're unpatriotic. And if it does, then I guess the grand majority of us are unpatriotic.

wow, this has really turned into something here. but let's face it, we don't need sadam around, we can all agree with that. it's not like your going to walk up to one of his freaking huge palaces, knock on the door wearing a girl scout uniform and charm him into leaving or just showing you what he's got weapons wise. that's not happening. your going to have to use force. i really don't think it's about oil, because he'll just burn all his oil fields when he loses, just like he did in kuwait. rumors are that he's already got them mother's wired and ready. Iraq doesn't have alot military wise, so the fighting is going to be a joke, remember people it only took 100 hours of fighting to kick Iraq out of Kuwait. there is no way there is going to be a draft for this, but N. Korea, 1.1million ready to fight, 1.8 reserve. fuck, i'm scared about that one. do i agree with war, not all the time, but this psyco needs to go, and with the help of Japan and S. korea, we can take N. korea.
